Genesis 4:3-5
‘When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord.
Abel also brought a gift – the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flocks.
The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, but He did not accept Cain and his gift…’ NLT

1 Samuel 16:7

For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’

Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year.
You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.
Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month.
Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight.’
• It took 3 days to fully examine the lamb to be used as a sacrifice.
It had to be perfect and spotless to qualify as a sacrifice for sins.
• Blood from the lamb was put on the doorway of their homes.
• They were to eat the whole lamb with nothing remaining.
• Because of the blood ~ death passed over them.

‘He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter…’
John 1:29-34 ~ The Lamb of God
Matthew 21:8-9 ~ Jesus Triumphal entry into Jerusalem:
‘And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest!’
Hebrews 9:13-14
‘For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?’
1 Peter 1:18-19
‘knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your faithers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.’
The person examined the sacrifice and the priest examined the sacrifice.
The priest did not examine the person bringing the sacrifice.
