Easter 2022
Good Morning and Happy Easter.
He is RISEN!!!
“He is RISEN INDEED”
You see it WAS Friday, but Sunday is here.
This year I think Easter is taking on very special significance.
For the last two years we have been isolated due to the pandemic.
I think that we are hopeful and expectant of the year ahead.
I pray that as we wake up and open up we have this renewed sense of who we are as Followers of Christ.
2019-2020 DID WE LEARN ANYTHING!
I pray that one the lessons that we learned of the last two years is that we cannot even take church, fellowship, potlucks for granted.
All of it can go away with a “proclamation” and two years later we are finally free again to worship, to have fellowship, to be the Kingdom People that God has designed us to be.
Scripture For Today - John 20.
Page 906 in Your Pew Bible.
Let’s set this up a bit.
Last week we saw that Jesus had made he his way to Bethany, just outside of Jerusalem.
Jesus came riding in on a foal of donkey, answering a prophecy from the Old Testament.
He was met with honor, glory,
The crowds, the Apostles, the Disciples everyone was worshipping and praising God.
Then Monday came...
The Pharisee’s and Sadduccess could not bear to see Jesus being successful.
They began to try and trap him every time they asked a question.
Trying to find a way to bring him up on charges.
Jesus cleared the temple… this would have been a successful, very successful operation to bring money into the temple… or the Pharisee’s pockets.
This and many other events points us to the cross.
The once and forever end to all sacrifice.
God sent his only begotten Son to cross.
To die for our sin and for the sin of the world on our behalf.
This is a a once for all, once forever action on Jesus part.
The panic that there must have been in there voices we don’t get to know...
By this time many of the disciples had already packed and returned home to try to put their lives back together.
You see if you recall, when Jesus called his disciples he simply asked and they simply followed.
Many risked everything by following.
They were Jews and they left it behind for this new thing called faith in Christ.
They cut ties with their families, their business, their communities.
Now… They were left with nothing!
This is a very interesting bit of scripture.
How were these two angels
Their white garments indicated holiness (perhaps also joy and victory).
They symbolized the triumph of life over death, of light over darkness, of grace over sin.
I do want you to note that the first person to see the risen Lord was not he beloved Apostle, It was NOT a stream of Angels or a priest or a prophet.
It was a woman!!
God chose to show this worldwide miracle to first a woman.
This is the best evidence that we have to give context to Jesus thoughts and feelings about women.
Men, women, males and females, Jews, gentiles, pagans and Romans… The resurrection is not only for “them” the resurrection is for all.
EVERYONE BENEFITS FROM JESUS RESURRECTION!
For Christians our Lord and Savior, the one that we have sold our souls to is EACTLY who he claimed.
He was GOD INCARNATE!
If you are not yet a believer in Jesus.
He died and was rose for you.
Praying that one day you too will see.
With this resurrection, Jesus had broken the final stronghold of satan, death.
Paul records it like this
A bit later in the story, all of the disciples were together.
Most likely they were hiding out.
You see after Peter went away in disgust and fear when he the crow.
He knew he had been caught in satan’s trap.
The Pharisee’s, the hight priest and everyone that previously could not convert their allegiance to Jesus from the law which leads to death.
Jesus was now free of pain, free of sin, free of shame that we have heaped on his shoulders like burning coals.
Here is my BIG idea for today… How do we finish our “Firm Foundation?”
This season we have been constructing a foundation that we MUST have to cling to in times of wind, rain, snow, sand, pollen and whatever else the earth can throw at us.
We have built it, we have put our footings in.
We have clinged to it.
We have put our roots down on it, we have planted our flag on it.
It is home now...
Still something is missing..?
What more could we need in a house, a foundation, a building, a flag to claim it for the one you have allegiance towards.
When building a home, its one thing to get a foundation poured, walls up but were is the roof/
The roof does a number of things.
keeps the rain out
keeps the hot sun out
provides a place for your family to live and love
provides stability to the occupants
That’s our Jesus!!!
Jesus makes a statement about this house about it condition and about what he can add.
At the building of the Foundation, Christ was there.
In all of the pieces that we added to the foundation and then the house.
Jesus was there.
And finally… He becomes the capstone
The addition of a CAPSTONE is the final piece of the home that Jesus built.
The arching doorway and the curved roof that is the strongest way to build is made by and for Jesus.
It is now finished… We are secure in Jesus, we have a secure foundation that we can escape to.
And what happens to the tormenter of all of us! I’m not afraid to to say his name.
satan was sent to confuse, to breed mistrust, to distract.
Now Jesus has a message for satan
Hell is real, it is NOT a place that you want to spend a minute.
You don’t want to spend a lifetime or eternity there
That’s what awaits those who do not believe
There is only one way!!! It’s with Jesus
Here is my BIG idea for today… How do we finish our “Firm Foundation?”
We need the “Capstone” We need Jesus!
We need his stability, we need his ability to calm our raging waters and to preform miracles in us when needed.
