In That Day

The Day of the Lord
The beginning of chapter 12 we see The Lord returning at the end of the tribulation
We see Jesus rescuing Jerusalem and all of Israel
from all of the nations who were trying to destroy it
When Jesus will begin His rule and administer justice
When Jesus returns the nation of Israel will turn to Him and be saved
They have been blinded up to this point
because when Jesus came the first time they condemned Him to be crucified
Luke 19:41–44 LEB
And when he approached and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, “If you had known on this day—even you—the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you and your enemies will put up an embankment against you, and will surround you and press you hard from all directions. And they will raze you to the ground, you and your children within you, and will not leave a stone upon a stone within you, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
so God blinded them so they would not accept Him as their Messiah
Even today they are looking desperately for their Messiah
Romans 11:7–10 LEB
What then? What Israel was searching for, this it did not obtain. But the elect obtained it, and the rest were hardened, just as it is written, “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear, until this very day.” And David says, “Let their table become a snare and a trap, and a cause for stumbling and a retribution to them; let their eyes be darkened so that they do not see, and cause their backs to bend continually.”
But God the Holy Spirit is going to change that in an instant

Regeneration

Regeneration may be defined as the change wrought by the Spirit of God, by the use of truth as a means, in which the moral disposition of the soul is renewed in the image of Christ Mullins, E. Y. (1917). The Christian Religion in Its Doctrinal Expression (p. 378). Roger Williams Press.
Concise Theology: A Guide to Historic Christian Beliefs Regeneration: The Christian Is Born Again

The concept is of God renovating the heart, the core of a person’s being, by implanting a new principle of desire, purpose, and action, a dispositional dynamic that finds expression in positive response to the gospel and its Christ.

What Jesus meant when he told Nicodemus “ye must be born again”
like Lazarus was dead in the grave and Jesus gave him a new life
we also are dead in our trespasses and sins and need to be infused with new life from the Holy Spirit
at this time we see our sin the same way God sees it and we will mourn over our sin
we cannot be saved unless our blinders are taken off and are given an infusion of new life
then we are given the faith to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved
Ephesians 2:8–9 (LEB)
For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast.
we are celebrating today the risen Savior
without Jesus rising from the dead we would have no hope
without Jesus dying for our sins we would have to go to Hell
there would be no one ever who is able to go to Heaven
and without Regeneration by the Holy Spirit in our lives
no one would be saved

Salvation of Israel

the nation of Israel will finally see Jesus as their messiah
because the Holy Spirit regenerates them
Zechariah 12:10 (LEB)
‘I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication, and they will look to me whom they pierced, and they shall mourn over him, as one wails over an only child, and they will grieve bitterly over him as one grieves bitterly over a firstborn.
a spirit of Grace - for by grace we are saved
The Spirit will give to them a new heart
Ezekiel 36:26 LEB
And I will give a new heart to you, and a new spirit I will give into your inner parts, and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh, and I will give to you a heart of flesh.
this is a supernatural event that we as humans cannot conger up on our own
God will give them the eyes to see their Messiah
lets look at what happened in Jerusalem when the church was born on Pentecost
Peter preaching to the people who were gathered
and at the end of the sermon
Acts 2:37 LEB
Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “What should we do, men and brothers?”
they understood because the Holy Spirit made them alive to the Gospel
Acts 16:14 (LEB)
And a certain woman named Lydia from the city of Thyatira, a merchant dealing in purple cloth who showed reverence for God, was listening. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was being said by Paul.
this is what is going to happen in to the nation Israel
Zechariah 12:10 (LEB)
“ ‘I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication, and they will look to me whom they pierced, and they shall mourn over him, as one wails over an only child, and they will grieve bitterly over him as one grieves bitterly over a firstborn.
prayer of repentance and faith
a turn from their way to Jesus
Zechariah 12:10 (LEB)
“ ‘I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication, and they will look to me whom they pierced, and they shall mourn over him, as one wails over an only child, and they will grieve bitterly over him as one grieves bitterly over a firstborn.
they will finally see Jesus as the one they rejected
they will see Him as the one they crucified
Isaiah 53:5 LEB
But he was pierced for our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon him, and by his wounds we were healed.
but they refused to acknowledge Him as their messiah
they will turn to Jesus and be saved
the same as you and me our sin put Jesus on the cross and we need to turn to Jesus
and away from our sin
put your trust in Jesus
The Spirit caused them to grieve and mourn bitterly over their sin
Zechariah 12:10 (LEB)
“ ‘I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication, and they will look to me whom they pierced, and they shall mourn over him, as one wails over an only child, and they will grieve bitterly over him as one grieves bitterly over a firstborn.
The spirit caused them to grieve as if their first born child has died
Zechariah 12:11 LEB
On that day the wailing will be great in Jerusalem, like the wailing for Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.
the nation as a whole is going to be saved but...
all of the people individually
Zechariah 12:12–14 (LEB)
And the land shall mourn, each clan by itself; the clan of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the clan of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves;
the clan of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the clan of the Shimeites by itself, and their wives by themselves; and all those clans remaining, each clan by itself, and their wives by themselves.’ ”
this is representing the king line
priest line
and all of the people
Paul in Romans 11 says
Romans 11:26–27 (LEB)
and so all Israel will be saved, just as it is written, “The deliverer will come out of Zion; he will turn away ungodliness from Jacob. And this is the covenant from me with them when I take away their sins.”
God will do this through the Spirits regeneration of each and every individual

The Final Regeneration

Jesus was resurrected from the grave
given a new body
and because He is the first fruits of the rest of His bride
we can have assurance that we also will be resurrected from the grave
or raptured
1 Corinthians 15:50–52 (LEB)
But I say this, brothers, that flesh and blood is not able to inherit the kingdom of God, nor can corruption inherit incorruptibility. Behold, I tell you a mystery: we will not all fall asleep, but we will all be changed,
in a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
Jesus will change us from a corruptible body
to a glorified spiritual body
to all who turn to Jesus and put their trust in Him
