1. God’s Goodness
- His Love, Grace, Mercy, Compassion and Lovingkindness
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. —John 3:16
/This is the day the Lord has made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it. —Psalm 118:24/
You are good, and what you do is good. —Psalm 119:68
God’s justice, holiness, and righteousness call for sinners to be judged, punished and condemned.
But God’s goodness, love, grace, mercy, compassion and lovingkindness call for an unblemished sacrifice of Christ (who took our place on the cross) to pay the penalty of sin.
We deserve God’s wrath and punishment, but we didn’t get it.
Why?
He paid the price we deserve to pay.
He died so that we could live and be reconciled to God.
By His death, Jesus became the final and complete sacrifice for our sins.
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! —Romans 5:8-10
4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior. —Titus 3:4-6
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. —1 John 4:10
Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation —2 Corinthians 5:18
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. —2 Corinthians 5:21
