What are you showing the world?
What are you showing the world?
Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless. But I will rejoice even if I lose my life, pouring it out like a liquid offering to God, just like your faithful service is an offering to God. And I want all of you to share that joy. Yes, you should rejoice, and I will share your joy.
Light. Light is a very cool, very interesting thing. What are some things that come to mind when you think of light?
Light is wam right? But it is also how we see. And not just physically. When we look around the world we see more than just physical darkness, right? We see Russia invading Ukraine. We see laws passed to allow babies to be killed up to and after being delivered. Christians are being murdered in Muslim occupied nations just because they are Christians. Our world is spiritually dark, we know this. We need a Light desperately. That’s why I love John 1:5
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.
This gives us hope. But how does Jesus choose to light up they world? Through us!
“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
Since Phil 1:27 we have been reading about how to be a live, act and be a Christian. As Christians we are citizens of heaven, not earth, so we are different. And now, we are called once again to be light.
In your small groups you will be going over verses 12-18, but go back and look at some of the verses between 1:27 and 2:18. What are somethings that stand out?
