Introduction

He is Risen!!! (He is risen indeed!!). Today is the begging of the greatest celebration the world has ever known. The celebration of our risen Lord. The grave could not hold Jesus. Death was defeated. Jesus has risen.
We celebrate this victory over death in the church for 50 days, a fifty day party that culminates on the day of pentecost, the birth of the church.
We celebrate the resurrection of our lord Jesus, but not just because of our Lord and savior still lives. We celebrate because through this victory we are offered a victory of our own. We are offered to share in Jesus’ resurrection. The resurrection of power. There is power in the resurrection because.....

The Resurrection Separates us From our Past Sins

Humans are always concerned about how we are identified
In Ancient societies it was about class/race
In more modern times we are identified by our professions
Today we are identified by our gender or sexuality
Human’s have always been defined by our past.
what is a resume? a list of our past accomplishments
how about people with a criminal record
But Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross says our past sins are forgiven
The resurrection say that we are a new creation in Christ
Galatians 6:15 NIV
Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation.
We died to our sins on the cross, but in Christ we are raised again to be new creations
How many of us identify as Christians?
When you meet someone offer not your vocation but that you are a Christian.
You are no longer defined by your past sin but now you are defined by your relationship with your risen lord.

The Resurrection Transforms our Present Sin Nature

We are all born with sin nature
Romans 5:12–14 NIV
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned— To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.
Even before there was a law to expose our sin, sin was present
We are selfish from birth
Mark 12:30–31 NIV
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
This is our nature, sin nature is inherited
Never good to say I was born that way
The resurrection transforms us from our sin nature
Jesus said when we went to the Father we would send us another advocate. John 14:16-17a.
“The Spirit of Truth”
This is only possible if Jesus is raised from the dead.
Because our sin nature is inherited from Adam our transformation to life comes from Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:22 NIV
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
We are made alive in the resurrection, not only eternally alive, but alive in the present.
Sin is death
Christ is life

The Resurrection Prepares us for a Sin Free Future

Because of Sin we are only offered death
Our futures were bleak
Eternal death means eternal separation from God
Jesus when talking about those who have sins say “
Matthew 25:46 NIV
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
Eternal death
The Resurrection offers us eternal life
Christ is called the first fruits of the resurrection
1 Corinthians 15:23 NIV
But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.
This means that Christ is only the first and the rest will follow
We will all share in the resurrection
All who are resurrected in Christ will be given an eternal reward
1 Thessalonians 4:14 NIV
For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
John 14:1–3 NIV
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
The eternal reward will be an eternity with God
The New heaven and new earth will be sin free/free of pain and death
Revelation 21:4 NIV
‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Revelation 21:27 NIV
Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Revelation 21:7 NIV
Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

Conclusion

We are all offered these gifts of the resurrection. This is not something we can earn, not something we can gain. This is a free gift, that God has offered us through his son, Jesus Christ. Today that gift is being offered to you and all you have to do is accept it. So will you accept it?
If you accept Jesus as your personal lord and savior for the first time today or if you would like to renew your relationship with Jesus I ask you to pray this prayer with me now.
“Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God, that you died on the cross to rescue me from sin and death and to restore me to the Father. I believe that on the third day you were raised from the dead. I choose now to turn from my sins, my self-centeredness, and every part of my life that does not please you. I choose you. I give myself to you. I receive your forgiveness and ask you to take your rightful place in my life as my Savior and Lord. Come reign in my heart, fill me with your love and your life, transform me and help me to become a person who is truly loving—a person like you. Let me share in your resurrection, Jesus. Live in me. Love through me. Thank you, God. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
