Introduction
Easter is all about the resurrection – He is Risen – is being preached around the globe today.
Our faith hinges on the resurrection.
If Christ was not resurrected, then everything we believe is in vain.
Lee Strobel – a reporter for the Chicago Tribune was one that was completely skeptical. He researched it out and the more he researched the more frustrated he got. Until he had to give in to his findings and gave His life to Christ.
( I have a couple copies of his Easter book at the back and you can help yourself to one)
The result of Christ’s crucifixion, was the penalty of sin has been paid.
We are redeemed. The old has passed away and the new takes shape.AMEN – Somebody say thank you Jesus
So not only are we now dead to sin but we are raised up into a new life.
One of my favorite books was written by, Ruth Paxon, it is called “The wealth , walk and warfare of the believer.”
She said that without Christ we are
Spiritually Dead, ”being alienated from the life of God.”
We Live In Mental Darkness ”having the understanding darkened.” “Completely deceived”
We Are Moral Degenerates ”who being past feeling have given themselves over.” – driven by impulse not truth
Physical Depravity ”Unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness.”
Now with Him, we are alive, we have understanding, driven by truth, and strive to live a pure life for Jesus – AMEN
I am going to break today’s message into four parts . Each start with the letter H so you can remember them.
Lets Start with a powerful Scripture.
Romans 6:4 (ESV)
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Explain the Easter Story
1. Healthy
That Word found in Romans 6:4 newness – it is a noun – it means new and youthful
How many of you know you can be old but still youthful
The Old you is a slave to sin and the world – well it is not the new you !
Now you have life= zoe – life without end and abundantly blessed
In Revelations 2:7 –
In the garden there were two trees that are mentioned – one of them was the tree of life – when you look up that word in the Hebrew it talks about restoration and revived – with the thought of being preserved alive.
Newness of life.
A theologian has said, The Greek expression translated “a new life” is better rendered “a new sphere which is life.” Apart from Christ people are dead in their sins (Eph 2:1). But raised from the dead through faith in Christ, they enter an entirely new sphere of existence. They are alive in Christ. As Jesus promised, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10).
God is calling you to something greater.
I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.
Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ
You could be living in an old body but you can have new life. AMEN
2. Hearty
This is a season where we will flourish
But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God.
Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green.
(KJV says fat and flourishing).
What happens to palm trees in a hurricane – They keep standing – they might be bent at a 45 degree angel but the keep standing – they flourish.
I still believe in the blessings of God
He has a way of keeping you – you will look back and say My God is a good God – AMEN
3. Hope
A new life is a life of freedom. Christ was not held captive by the chain of death. In fact, He has come to set the captives free.
Today the world lives in fear. It is possible to live in freedom in the midst of tremendous tragedy and despair.
The early church lived in great oppression by those ruled over them, but they lived in freedom.
They new the prophet Jeremiahs words
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
They lived in Hope that was beyond this current life
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
The church is a place of Hope, I define it as - Helping Others Prepare for Eternity
4. Healed
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
When you study healing - it is more than just healing from sin,
Healed: (lit.) ‘there is healing for us’, the accomplished reality of restored wholeness.
Some believe this passage is only talking about healing from Sin not physical healing at all.
It is by no accident that you are in this room today. God has brought you into the sanctuary and He wants to set you apart from the world.
You are adopted into a new family – One that has a destiny and a purpose. One that will last.
He heals your mind, your emotions - He changes everything.
I saw a girl transformed from a frail weak, pale individual to one with strength, peace and color in her face . Shea gained weight and in 90 days was nearly unrecognizable because God blessed her so much.
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
God can give you a new you
When we put on Christ we put on a jersey with a winning record, undefeated. A team to be proud of.
Your purpose is to win. We win by giving our all to Jesus. Working together for a common goal
Jesus said, “Because I live, you live”
CONCLUSION
Today is not only Easter but Miracle Sunday ! AMEN
We needed a miracle then and we still need a miracle now AMEN.
The Christians in Ukraine need a miracle.
The Christians that are persecuted in many countries of the world need a miracle
Jesus is in the miracle working business.
John the baptist when he was in prison needed to know that Jesus was in the miracle business.
Jesus said to Johns messengers,
And He answered and said to them, “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have the gospel preached to them.
Jesus is the same yesterday, today and for ever - His miracle working power has not waned, or
somehow become un-effective.
I want everyone who needs a miracle to stand and come forward - If you are at home I want you to agree with me in prayer.
For some of you it will be your first step of faith.
You need to give your life to Jesus. - He is all you need. AMEN
Lets Pray Together
