Is this Jesus?
This is the question that Mark was seeking to answer when he wrote the Book of Mark.
Matthew Mark, Luke and John the four gospels, the different testimonies of Jesus and written account and Mark probably almost certainly the early so that the eyewitness report of the Apostle Peter written down by John Mark his disciple as it were his men tea and he would tell John Mark almost certainly and then this happened has happened, is that this happened and then this happened and it comes to us in the Book of Mark, a seasoning.

Why want to take us through that book quickly this morning?
So if you want to open your Bibles to Mark the first chapter, we'll just start the beginning.
All the way through.
I'm not kidding.
We're going to go fast.
And it opens with the prologue, the start of the book, the stuff before the stuff, the pro, the dominant so to speak and John, I'm sorry, it begins with John the baptizer, the prologue.
The one who is going to prepare the way for Jesus.
All the way through verse 8 of the first chapter, we have this prologue, really about John the baptizer and then we go into the story of Jesus proper.
Asking who is this?
Jesus?
Who is this person that by this time?
I had captured the imagination of an Empire and had caused families to divide and others who had no reason to associate with one another to unite around the common cause of Christ.
And so it is in verses 9 through 14.
We have this preparation stage of short little stage in Mark's account of the baptism of Jesus and you can just imagine.
John the baptizer baptizing his cousin Jesus is Earthly cousin Jesus and wondering who is this man?
I'm a regular birth.
Angel announced not unlike John has his own John, the Baptist, his own story.
They were a little bit parallel for a while.
And in other accounts.
We read that John definitively knew who Jesus was.
He was the mighty Messiah because his Jesus is baptized in the Water by John.
The baptizer have an opens up the Holy Spirit descend in the form of a dub or something like it and your voice from having shots out.
This is my beloved Son.
God the Father God, the son, and God the Holy Spirit, the Trinity all there to, not just witness, but to make history.
In John.
Is there to see it?
But in the first words of Jesus Earthly, Ministry after being baptized, and then going into the Wilderness to be tempted by Satan to prove his mettle against his Ultimate Enemy.
Jesus said, the time is fulfilled.
This is Mark 1:15, and the kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe the gospel from the very first moment.
Jesus is preaching the kingdom of God.
The good news that God Saves.
God redeems.
That restores got reconciles.
God, reigns believe and receive the Gospel.
Jesus says from the get-go and then Mark starts off on a proof after proof after proof of who.
This Jesus is.
He is the mighty Messiah.
The mighty Messiah, the ones that Jews had anticipated expected in.
Hope for four centuries had come the mighty Messiah, just as they expected.
Jesus calls his disciples, we go through the rest of the first chapter 1 of Jesus, begin killing people.
He heals, even the lepers, the worst of the worst, the outcasts of society.
He goes to them.
He has a presence in her their lives and he heals that he, he heals the paralytic and then he begins his Teaching Ministry.
Fasting lord of the Sabbath The Wizard hand.
Then he establishes his 12. Closest followers his 12 Apostles are disciples.
He begins to teach in Parables and often times.
We think of Parables as stories that reveal truths, but really what they were is stories that concealed truth.
That those who had a had an ear, let them hear, Let Them understand.
But those who did not understand those who had no faith.
Which kind of scratch their head?
What what are you talkin about?
Seed sower.
A lamp a basket, a mustard seed but he continues to show that he is the mighty Messiah by calming the storm by healing jairus's daughter.
And then being rejected in his own town by his own friends and family movies.
This, we know his parents.
We know Marianne and his Earthly.
Father, Joseph there.
Nothing special.
The question becomes more poignant, though.
Who is this?
Jesus, when your life is on the line?
We get to beginning to get towards the middle of the book in Mark, chapter 6 and we have a record.
Of the death of John, the Baptist in Mark, doesn't record as for it, but but the other gospels do how John the baptizer, the cousin of Jesus had seen and witnessed.
Exactly who Jesus was the mighty Messiah, but then, Life didn't happen.
Like you expected it to.
He was captured in prison falsely.
And before he was beheaded, he sent word through his apart through his own disciples to Jesus and begs.
The question.
Are you the Messiah?
Are you the one or should we look for somebody else? Jesus said, look at the scriptures.
I'm doing exactly what the Old Testament said.
The Messiah would do.
I am the mighty Messiah and when your life is on the line, in your hard times, comes up in your life that you need to know.
Jesus Christ Our Living Hope because without that your world is helpless.
You can seek.
Medical treatment, you can seek psychological treatment, you can seek physical treatment.
You can even speak seek spiritual treatment, but without Jesus Christ, Our Living Hope than you'll be lost.
Eternally whenever this life dies, whether it's tomorrow.
Born, 50 years John, the Baptist life is on the line and he wants to know.
Should we look for somebody else?
And John Jesus says, you shouldn't look for anybody else.
It continues to differentiate.
Now the difference between John the Baptist and Jesus.
Their lives were parallel.
They were revered, they were followed.
They were listened to as teachers, and then John was killed.
He's taking off the screen.
Who is this?
Jesus, who was John?
John was the one to prepare the way.
Jesus is the way.
So Jesus continues to prove that he is a mighty Messiah.
As Mark continues to lead us through Miracles.
Jesus is walking on the water.
He heals the sick, but all the while there is, what is described as the Messianic secret?
