I. Thomas Rejected Christ
Thomas SHOULD not be called “doubting Thomas”
He did not doubt it, he REJECTED Him.
He chose to not believe in Him
He should be called unbelieving Thomas
Doubting goes along with faith
He was not with the disciples
He was not with his friends
He was somewhere else for some reason, we don't know why
Could have been he was just returning back to his normal life.
He did not believe their testimony
the Greek implies that he was told several times about the testimony which they saw.
Before this Mary required the same thing, before this the disciples required the same thing.
Thomas is not unique with the first generation of believers.
He did not want to just jump on the idea that Jesus had resurrected.
He wanted to be sure
II.
Christ Accepted Thomas
he showed up unexpectedly
God will sometimes show up unexpectedly in your life
I did not expect to be taken on the journey i have been taken on in my life
Jesus showed up at the right time for Thomas
Today for some of you, he is showing up at the right time
He declared Peace to Him (26)
Why does he say this?
So that they would not be afraid of him.
He appeared out of nowhere
He could have literally scared them
He is showing them he is not coming to judge or condemn them, but to love them
They were cowering behind closed doors AGAIN
Thomas was claiming that they were lying about him
This is the way that Jesus comes to you today
He is not coming in judgment, hate, or dissapointment
He has come here today to declare to you PEACE be with you.
He speaks calmly and lovingly to him
He confronted Thomas
Jesus may confront you with a: Sermon; life event; a close call with death or injury, the loss of a loved one...
How many of these have you ignored?
He Shows Him His Scars (27)
Those scars never will fade Rev 5:6
He is showing Thomas the scars he took for people like Thomas.
He is showing him the wounds he took for not only the ones who accept him, but those who reject him also.
Today if Jesus were to appear to us, he would show us those scars
He would show you those scars which were given to him for you.
III.
Thomas Confessed Christ
This was enough for Thomas to accept Christ
Why did Thomas accept Christ?
He met the resurrected Jesus.
How could he refuse him?
He confessed Jesus to be both His Lord and His God.
He confessed him to Be God -> the only one
He confessed him to be Lord -> The ruler of his life
Then Jesus says something interesting
What he says there is this
Thomas you did not believe the testimony of even your friends.
You should have listened to them
But blessed are those who have not seen me, like you have thomas, and believed in Me by the testimony of others.
