INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” 3 So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. 4 Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9 for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples went back to their homes.
THE RESURRECTION IS GOOD NEWS TO:
PT. 1 GOOD NEWS TO THE SEEKING
PT. 1 GOOD NEWS TO THE SEEKING
The Resurrection is good news to those who are seeking
Mary comes early before the sun comes up on a Sunday morning to meet Jesus. No telling why she came while it was still dark, maybe out of safety, but she came seeking to serve Jesus even in His death.
she comes searching in the dark and unkown. 2 days after the one who had given her all the answers she needed was brutally tortured as a criminal and killed. And now after 3 days she comes searching for Him. Searching for someone, something, she didn’t fully understand. All while searching she ignorant of what had already happened in the tomb. Ignorant that Jesus had told them it was going to happen, ignorant of what the scriptures said about Him. Searching for
There are those of us here who are searching.
You’re unsatisfied: You are fed up with this world and see it does not fully satisfy
You know something: You know that God is real, or hope that He is, or even are seeking to see if He is real, so that you can find the purpose of life
Sin has its grip on you, you do things that are displeasing to God and desrve death and hell, they are devastate life situations, hurt relationships, burn bridges, and constantly dig you in a hole
Good News: Jesus is Risen
He is the true satisfier of the soul
35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
9 For he satisfies the longing soul,
and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
26 The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied;
those who seek him shall praise the Lord!
May your hearts live forever!

11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. 12 And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. 13 They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” 14 Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.
Mary weeps that what she came looking for isn’t there. She’s disappointed. Things have gotten worse from her perspective. Not only is Jesus dead, but now she can’t mourn Him well nor serve Him in His death. Why would God allow this to happen. Why would God even let her wake up early and walk to the garden tomb knowing she would find such a devastating scene.
Pt 2. is that the Resurrection is good news to the Hurting.
as she weeps she looks into the tomb
Angels are sitting inside, its difficult to harmonize this with the other gospels that share more words that the angels said and did, and at human reaction, but i enjoy that her John doesn’t make much of the angels… as to show that when when i’m searching, and i’m hurting, weeping and broken, not even an angel will satisfy me, not even 2 angels will comfort me. Angels or nice but they can’t save my soul. Angels are beautiful but not enough to cover the ugliness of my situation, Angels are powerful but not powerful enough to change the situation, to make my soul whole,
Mary turns around, and see’s Jesus!!!
That would be reason enough to shout, to have the answer to all your solutions right in your face, but Mary didn’t know it.
Many of us in the building and in this world have heard the gospel, seen the transformations in others lives, have the solution right in front of us, but can’t see it. People have told us how, but won’t accept it.
I’ve got good news for you, the answer to your searching and your pains is right in front of your face!!!
He asks her the same question , and she’s still so devastated she doesn’t bother to answer His question she goes right away to giving orders, Give me His body back!
Jesus calms all her doubts, all her fears, all her pain, flips them on their head with one word, the first words didn’t do it, the recognizable voice didn’t do it, it was His call. “Mary”
He knew her name.
Mary goes on to worship Jesus in great joy and then go announce to the disciples as the first official gospel evangelist, by the way, female, I have seen the Lord!
the resurrection is good news to the hurting
8 To you, O Lord, I cry,
and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
9 “What profit is there in my death,
if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it tell of your faithfulness?
10 Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me!
O Lord, be my helper!”
11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,
12 that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
PT. 3 GOOD NEWS TO THE DOUBTING
PT. 3 GOOD NEWS TO THE DOUBTING
24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”
26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Good news to the doubting
i want to see the marks of death
to know that its really the person i know who died
i want to touch with my hands
If i don't i wont believe He rose -
i will assume you are all mistaken, lying, delusional
Jesus says come and see come and touch believe don't disbelieve
Jesus says I’ve got evidence for your doubt!
HOW IS THE RESURRECTION GOOD NEWS TO YOU?
