Have you ever looked for something in the wrong place?
I couldn’t find my laptop in my bag.
This video does justice to those of you who have had days where you may have lost hope, forget, deny, faith losses footing, stumble along our way, if this day comes, may we remember, what has been found, what has been defeated, what has been forgiven, what was dead has found new life, old now new, finite, eternal. remember and follow the risen way.
It contains many people who, just like you, who were a little lost, confused, unprepared.
They were people with problems, the did not finish tasks, they failed Jesus, they failed others, they doubted and, at this time, were nothing too special or notable.
The way Jesus comes to people in these stories is amazing.
It is important to remember that Jesus didn’t rise for those of us who read our bibles, but also for those who cry at night, suffer, wake up too late for church and make unforgivable mistakes.
Passover, the Lord did not check who inside the house was worthy, he checked for the blood on the doorpost because none of us are worthy.
Let me say, that many churches will care about having a full house, we care that YOU have a full heart and a full life.
In Luke, the stories of the risen Jesus are more extensive than those of the other Gospels
These last few stories in Luke may have been composed with worship in mind.
Christ is known by revelation
The Gospel
The Old Testament
The recent rumors of the sunken Russian battle ship contained pieces from Jesus cross.
But, we had hoped.
He is not here!
He is not here: These were some of the most beautiful and important words ever spoken by an angel to men. One may look all over Jerusalem and see countless thousands of tombs, but one will never find the tomb of Jesus – because He is not here.
i. Every so often someone claims to have found evidence of the tomb of Jesus or the bones of Jesus. Each claim is found to be untrue, while the testimony of the angels is proved true over and over again: He is not here.
ii. Even the beginning of the resurrection account refutes many of the false alternative theories suggested by some.
Luke On the Way to Emmaus (24:13–35)
Jesus on the way to Emmaus (vv. 13–27), the meal at Emmaus (vv. 28–32), and the subsequent actions of the two disciples (vv. 33–35).
Luke On the Way to Emmaus (24:13–35)
It has been said that Jesus seems to eat his way through the Gospel of Luke, for he is frequently depicted at a meal
Luke On the Way to Emmaus (24:13–35)
the last thing Jesus does with his disciples before his passion is to share a meal with them, and the first thing he does when appearing again to them is to share a meal with them.
He took bread, and blessed it and broke it and gave it to them (the last supper, the feeding of the 5,000)
It echoes an Old Testament story; the Lord’s appearance to Abraham and Sarah at Mamre (Gen. 18:1-15)
The angels’ question made a point: the living are not to be found among the dead. We should not expect spiritual life among those who do not have it. Many look for Jesus in dead things – religious traditionalism, formalism, man’s rules, human effort and ingenuity. We find Jesus only where there is resurrection life, where He is worshipped in Spirit and in truth.
Pentecost completes Easter just as Easter completes Good Friday. A church without Pentecost cannot shout “He is Risen” loudly enough to sustain Easter week after week.
The Spirit empowers the Church for mission in the world
For Luke, the Spirit empowers the Church for mission in the world. The Holy Spirit moves the Church into areas in which it otherwise would not have gone and into activities in which it otherwise would not have engaged
The Disciples do are not dejected nor downcast, but look for power on high to change the world.
If it weren’t for Jesus…All because of Jesus
