Bottomline: Your new life cannot start until you old life is over.
Intro- mom washing out mouth with soup
Looking in the gospels Jesus tells his followers at least 21 recorded times that he would come back
It was widely enough known that guards were placed at the tomb, that was not normal
Luke 24
The New International Version (Chapter 24)
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.
5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
6 He is not here; he has risen!
Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’
” 8 Then they remembered his words.9
When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.
10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles.
11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.
12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb.
Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
We should not be surprised that God does what He says He will do.
-We would be anticapting Him showing up…our God is not just a promise maker but a promise keeper....Jesus did what he said he would, that shouldn’t be suprising
We shouldn’t be surprised that God wants to resurrect our broken hearts.
The New International Version (Chapter 11)
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.
The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.
Do you believe this?”
Only Jesus can bring dead things back to life.
-We would begin to live differently and shed our sin and shame....Lazarus and grave clothes
John 11
The New International Version (Chapter 11)
43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”
If we took Jesus and the resurrection seriously our lives would look so different.
Because He lives we get to live differently, not as dead people, but people who are alive!
Jesus died and rose again so you could be alive in Him!
We don’t need to carry shame or fear or broken or
-we would continue his mission…reinstating peter
Tell the story of John 21
Jesus wants us to fully surrender to Him and His Kingdom because He gave everything so that we could live in His Kingdom with Him.
Romans
The New International Version (Chapter 6)
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.
10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.11
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.
14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
Grace changes everything.
Jesus changes everything.
Jesus died so we could live and Jesus lives so you can have true life!
