Introduction

“Ta da”, little girl story, Jesus’ first words
Last week we looked at how the crucifixion of Jesus was prophesied about, foreshadowed, and imbedded in the OT.
Well-over 300 verses in the NT are concerned with the resurrection of Jesus.
Today we are going to look at the resurrection of Jesus and its significance for us

OT Passages

Psalm 16:10 NASB95PARA
For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.
Hosea 6:2 NASB95PARA
“He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day, That we may live before Him.
Hosea 13:14 NASB95PARA
Shall I ransom them from the power of Sheol? Shall I redeem them from death? O Death, where are your thorns? O Sheol, where is your sting? Compassion will be hidden from My sight.
Isaiah 25:8 NASB95PARA
He will swallow up death for all time, And the Lord God will wipe tears away from all faces, And He will remove the reproach of His people from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken.
Ezekiel 37:3–5 NASB95PARA
He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, You know.” Again He said to me, “Prophesy over these bones and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.’ Thus says the Lord God to these bones, ‘Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life.
Ezekiel 37:10 NASB95PARA
So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
Jonah 1:17 NASB95PARA
And the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the stomach of the fish three days and three nights.
Matthew 12:40 NASB95PARA
for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

The resurrection means that Christianity is right

1 Corinthians 15:17–19 NASB95PARA
and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.

The resurrection means that believers will rise again

1 Corinthians 15:50–53 NASB95PARA
Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.

The resurrection means that we can have life.

1 Corinthians 15:21 NASB95PARA
For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.
Jesus died on the cross so we might have forgiveness of sin, guilt, and shame. He rose from the grave that we might have His life within us and live in eternity with him. The fact that He rose from the grave is the hope that we too will see life after death.

Jesus’ death brings forgiveness; His resurrection brings life!
