The whole ideal of celebrating the Passover is based on the fact of deliverance. The Israelites were bound for 400 years and were slaves to the Egyptians. They cried out for deliverance until the Lord finally delivered them. The Lord sent 10 plagues to deliver the Israelites, it was the final plague that had the most impact that caused the Israelites to walk in freedom and deliverance.
The Lord told the Israelites that the “destroyer” or death angel would smite the first born of Egypt (Exo 11:5), but the LORD would spare the children of Israel including man and beast.
The LORD instructed Moses and Aaron and told them to take a lamb according to their household, a lamb without blemish, a male of the first year and on the 14th day of the month kill the lamb in the evening (not night) and then take the blood and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses (Exo 12:5-7).
They were to then prepare the lamb for a meal, roast in fire, and prepare unleavened bread (without yeast), and eat the lamb with bitter herbs. Cook the lamb as is, because you’ll have very little time to butcher it. The Lord was going to do a quick work. They were to celebrate the night of their deliverance out of slavery.
Ahhh, but we must understand that this passover celebration was also a type and shadow of what was to come.
Sin is considered to be the great destroyer because the result of sin is death (both spiritual and natural).
