“It is Finished”
“It is Finished”
1) Finished implies that it began
1) Finished implies that it began
What began? The work of Jesus
His work began with a promise - Genesis 3
The promise was continually proclaimed by prophets
Prophets were persecuted and killed for believing and preaching
God didn’t wait for sinners to ask- He began His work
Satan was happy with mankind being separated from God, knowing how much God loves mankind
2) What work was needed?
2) What work was needed?
Reconciliation with God
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
Sin separated humans from fellowship with Him
Reconciliation required a perfect sacrifice
No spot or blemish (He lived a perfect life)
Sacrifice was required to atone for sin
Sacrifice = death, a bloody death
3) The picture of the work
3) The picture of the work
Crucifixion details

The sacrifice was complete
Full atonement offered
and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
IT = closing the gap between us and God
His work - DONE, FINISHED
Our response - trust
For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
