1 Timothy 6:3–6 ESV
If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain,
Depraved: to be corrupt v. — to be or become lacking in integrity or uprightness.
Deprived: to be deprived v. — to be or become without something; not obtain or have.
“imagining that godliness is a means of gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain”

for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
1 Timothy 6:9–10 ESV
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
Evils: evil (behavior) n. — morally objectionable behavior.
Objectionable: arousing distaste or opposition; unpleasant or offensive
Wandered away: to disbelieve ⇔ wander away v. — to disbelieve gradually or slowly, conceived of as straying from a direct or proper course.
The Faith: gospel content ⇔ faith n. — the content of what is (and should be) believed about the good news of Jesus’ way of salvation.
“Pierced themselves with many pangs.”
Pierced: to affect acutely ⇔ impale v. — to subject to an extremely sharp or intense state or condition; conceived of as piercing through something.
Pangs: suffering (pain) n. — feelings of mental or physical pain.
1 Timothy 6:11 ESV
But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.
Pursue: to pursue (activity) v. — to carry out or participate in an activity.
Righteousness: — adherence to what is required according to a standard; for example, a moral standard, though not always.

Faith: faithfulness n. — the quality of being faithful.

Steadfastness: steadfast endurance n. — the power to withstand hardship or stress; especially the inward fortitude necessary.
Gentleness: n. — acting in a manner that is gentle, mild, and even-tempered.
1 Timothy 6:12 ESV
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Fight: to fight v. — to be engaged in a fight; carry on a fight.
Fight: conflict n. — any contest or struggle.
The Faith: trust (faith) n. — strong confidence in, and reliance upon, someone or something; often with the object of trust understood.

He took Joy for my freedom…
Isaiah 53:5–6 ESV
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53:7–8 (ESV)
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
yet he opened not his mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his mouth.
By oppression and judgment he was taken away;
and as for his generation, who considered
that he was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people?
Isaiah 53:9–10 ESV
And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
Isaiah 53:11 ESV
Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.
