Your New Life
Your New Life
We are in our Rise Up Series and today is going to be a really special day.
Today we will be out of 1 Corinthians 15:1-28 and the title of Today’s Message is “Your New Life”
Have you ever thought about life after death? We have had a lot of funerals and deaths in the church in the last six months. Typically at these types of things cause’s people really begin to reflect on what comes after our time here on earth and what happens when we die.
Paul was at this time writing to the Corinthians to help them bring order and not give up the new life that they had found through the resurrection of Christ.
There were people that were teaching that there was no resurrection and Paul is writing this letter to combat that thought. This New life that they experience through faith in a risen savor.
Romans 1:25, he was shown to be the son of God by his resurrection.
You have to die before you become resurrection.
You have to die to yourself. You have to die to your old sinful ways and be Rise up with Christ.
Summarize v.1-2
They had received the good news and where still firm in it. They had not given up. It was the good news that saved them. If they believed it or maybe some of them didn’t believe. This false teaching was trying to take away from their new life with faith in Christ.
Paul starts off chapter 15 by reminding the Corinthian church of the message that he preached to them which was that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with Scripture.
3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
The important thing. Out of all the things Paul could have told them about, the revelations of God, his experiences, he wanted to make sure he emphasized this most important thing, which is that Christ died, He was buried and He was raised from the dead on the third day.
I tell the staff if it’s important to me it’s important to them.
If it was important to Paul then it should be important to us.
Even back in verse one Paul says that this truth is what they stood on. As we go through today’s sermon keep this in the back of your mind that everything we are going to talk about today is what we can stand on in our faith.
The Evidence of Christ’s resurrection
(Verses 5-11)
5 He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. 6 After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. 7 Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also saw him.
The first thing we need to remember is that there is evidence of Christ’s resurrection.
Seen by peter, the twelve and more than 500 (vs 6)
Seen by James and other disciples (vs 7)
Paul also saw a resurrected Christ (vs 8)
500 – mass hallucination would be a bigger miracle than the resurrection itself.
Verses, 9-11 – you can say that Paul realized that it was the grace of God.
Paul let’s us and his readers know that he was only where he was because of the grace of God.
Our hope is the Resurrection
(vs 12-19)
Discuss the background of the disbelief in the resurrection during that day. The Sadducee. IF Christ did not raise then this is all useless.
If there is no resurrection:
What’s the problem if Christ wasn’t Raised from the dead?
12 But tell me this—since we preach that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying there will be no resurrection of the dead? 13 For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless. 15 And we apostles would all be lying about God—for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave. But that can’t be true if there is no resurrection of the dead. 16 And if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins.
Then Our preaching is useless and our faith is useless (vs 14)
Without the resurrection there is no Christianity
We are liars (vs 15)
We are still guilty of our sins (vs 17)
Everyone who died believing in Christ are lost (vs 18)
We should be pitied more than anyone (vs19)
The Power is in the Resurrection
21 So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. 22 Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life. 23 But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back.
18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. 19 Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.
The power of the resurrection gives us new life.
Christ is the first fruits (describe what that means)
It is the first one!“the first of the ripe fruits”
Death came through Adam but Resurrection came from Christ (vs. 21-22)
Adam sinned then everyone died. Every person is born with a sin nature.
You don’t have to teach kids to do bad things. You have to teach them to do good things.
Through Christ we have this new life and righteousness but without the resurrection we would still be die in our sin’s
The order of the resurrection
23 But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back.
24 After that the end will come, when he will turn the Kingdom over to God the Father, having destroyed every ruler and authority and power. 25 For Christ must reign until he humbles all his enemies beneath his feet. 26 And the last enemy to be destroyed is death.
1. Christ Raised
2. All who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back
3. The End will come
4. Christ will turn the kingdom over to the Father (having destroyed every ruler authority and power).
5. Christ must reign until he humbles every enemy and the last enemy to be defeated is death.
All Authority is Christ’s
“In the end Christ’s work is for the glory of the Father.”
