John 19:30 NASB Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!”
And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.
If we can be honest with ourselves, during these times we are in we have had every excuse to quit along the way, and in the world and the Church we are seeing what they call THE GREAT RESIGNATION.
Because if anybody knows what its like to see an opportunity to run and change course it has been those who have been serving God while in the midst of one of the most confusing and stressful times in history, I know you’ve seen the Churches that have closed their doors, I know you’ve seen the empty pews, I know you’ve seen the Pastors committing suicide, but if I could encourage you with anything this early in the message I would tell you it will all be worth it.
For those of you who had to still show up and run the camera, still show up and sing with a mask on, still show up and pray, still get up and cook, still get the kids ready, still make sure your parents were taken care of, still show up to work, i come tell you your labor is not in vain and God knows the labor of love you have given to the saints and he will reward in due season, tell somebody my due season is coming!
Imagine if Elijah had quit while under the Juniper Tree, we would have no Elisha
If Moses had quit while at Jethro’s house, we would have no Joshua to get us to the promised land
If David would have quit while running from Saul, we would miss the lineage our Messhiah was to come though
And what if Jesus had quit after being betrayed by Judas, being denied by Peter, and being falsely accused by those he came to save…we would have no Gospel and a world without the gospel has no hope
But I’m so glad that when he could’ve called the angels to help him he realized that IT HURT HIM TO BE UP THERE, BUT IT WOULD’VE HURT HIM MORE TO COME DOWN…TELL SOMEBODY I’M SO GLAD HE FINISHED!!!
These is this concept in scripture called PROPITIATION .
Propitiation comes from the greek word that means to cover completely, in other words the debt we owed to God for our sin, the guilt offering we should have brought to God, when Jesus died on the cross he satisfied the debt, he paid it in full and left nothing for us to pay, that’s why the hymn says Jesus paid it all, all to him i owe, sin has left its crimson stain, why because the only way we have redemption, the only way we were reconciled back to God, and the only way Jesus paid the full price is through his own precious blood.
Clap your hands if your grateful he paid the debt.
John considers his Greek audience and decides to use a term they would understand to explain what Jesus really meant when he said the most beautiful words in all literature, IT IS FINISHED for in the Greek culture when a receipt was sent as an invoice the word tetelestai was written at the top to signify that the job was completed and price had been paid in full, when an artist finished a painting and he realized there was nothing else he could do to perfect the painting he would yell out tetelestai, and when Jesus had taken all the beatings, all the betrayal, and all the sour wine he needed to take for the sins of the world he cried out TETELESTAI meaning its (E) paid in full.
Can tell you for all of the hell you survived, because you survived the rejection, because you survived the divorce, because you survived the abuse, because you survive the heartache, because you outlived the expectation of your adversary, your next season is called TETELESTAI, in other words you won’t have the same warfare from the last season because you’ve already paid for it with you last tears, you paid for it, when you worshipped in the night season, open your mouth and shout paid in full!!!
YOU’RE ABOUT TO WALK
INTO ONE OF YOUR GREATEST SEASONS
NOT BECAUSE YOU WERE PERFECT
BUT BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T QUIT
TELL SOMEBODY,
BECAUSE YOU STUCK IT OUT
BECAUSE YOU STAYED THE COURSE
LOOK AT EM AND TELL THEM
IT IS FINISHED
OPEN YOUR MOUTH
AND SAY TETELESTIA!!!
