The Sprinkling of the Blood
The Sprinkling of the Blood
Passover- Last of the 10 plagues. Death of the firstborn.
Hebrews commanded to use hyssop to put the blood of lambs on the doorposts of their home.
Exodus 12:13 “Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.”
They could not just sacrifice a lamb and say the blood covers us. They had to be obedient and apply the blood.
Deuteronomy 6:8-9 “You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
Hebrews 10:22 “let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”
So if our hearts are the doorposts of our home, how do we apply the blood of Jesus?
FIrst, let’s look at a couple of things.
Leviticus the priest sprinkled the blood 7 times on the mercy seat.
Hebrews 9:22 “And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.”
Hebrews 12:24 “to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.”
This pointed to Jesus shedding His blood in 7 different ways.
In the garden He sweat drops of blood. Luke 22:44 “And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”
He was struck in the face. Luke 22:63-64 “Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him. And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?””
He was flogged. Luke 18:33 “They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.””
His beard was pulled out in tufts fulfilling Isaiah 50:6 “I gave My back to those who struck Me, And My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.”
Large thorns in the crown they placed on Him pierced His scalp. Matthew 27:29 “When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!””
His hands and feet were nailed to the cross. John 20:25 “The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.””
His side and heart were pierced. John 19:34 “But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.”
How do we apply the blood?
We apply it through accepting what He did on our behalf. Salvation!
We apply it by understanding that the sinlessness and sacrifice of Jesus is our only grounds for victory. Nothing of ourselves! Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
We apply it by declaring our identity is in the blood!
We apply it against the enemy in any way he is attacking us! Revelation 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”
We apply it by walking in obedience!
We apply it with faith in whatever we need!
We apply to it to our emotions when we are struggling!
We apply it to our bodies when we are battling sickness!
We apply it to our minds when we are battling confusion, fear, doubt, skepticism!
We apply it to our circumstances such as our finances!
I claim the power of the blood of Jesus over this situation!
I plead the blood!
I used to not like that phrase because I didn’t think we should be begging God for anything, but then someone told me that it wasn’t a term of begging, but a legal term.
Plead- to assert as a defense. The blood of Jesus is our defense against the accusations of the enemy!
7 ways Jesus shed His blood covers every part of our body. Head, face, chest, back, hands, feet, side and heart.
The blood of Jesus was shed for every part of you. Our identity is found in the blood of Jesus!
The blood of Jesus is our armor! Jesus was wounded so you could be protected!
Thank you Jesus for Your blood!
