BODY:
1. Forgive when you are right
- How can we reach and minister to the very own people that we hate and hold grudges to?
- Sometimes we do the “God fix them” prayer instead of asking God to grow us and work on us.
- Sometimes we don’t want to forgive someone because it lets them of the hook
- God is asking you to forgive not only because it is a relief to the other person. But he is wanting to grow our own hearts.
- Jesus loved Barabbas even though he was wrong, and Jesus was innocent.
- Jesus in his all-knowing wisdom knew that Judas would betray him for silver. But still allowed him to take charge of the money. Even though he would sometimes steal from it.
-
John 12:4-6
But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.[b]” 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
- Time and time in the bible we see God’s non deserving grace and forgiveness towards us
- He continues to show us love and forgiveness
- And as Christians who are Christ like aren’t we called to do the same to our families and friends.
1 Corinthians 13:4–8
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.8 Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!
- Forgiveness is love
- Examples of when we don’t forgive
- Examples of when we forgive expecting a return
-
1 Corinthians 13:1-13
If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it;[a] but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.
- Go back to the start of Corinthians 13
- We can do wonderful miracles but without love it is just like clanging cymbals.
- What we have to do is mature
1 Corinthians 13:11
When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 12 Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.[c] All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.
- What we have to do is mature
- Some things just do not deserve our attention
2. Forgive yourself
- We hold ourselves to unforgiveness and we deem ourselves not worthy for his presence.
- Sometimes we write ourselves off “God’s grace list” so we turn to different things to give us fulfilment and restoration.
-
- The work of the cross was sufficient enough for our sins
- We don’t have to Sacrifice ourselves or turn to different things to find belonging because the blood of Jesus is all sufficient
HEBREWS 10:19
And so, dear brothers and sisters,[a] we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus.
1 JOHN 1:7
But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin
EPHESIANS 2:13
But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.
HEBREWS 9:13-14
under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer could cleanse people’s bodies from ceremonial impurity. 14 Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds[a] so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.
HAVE A DEMONSTRATION ON HOW THE ENEMY USES UNFORGIVNNES TO SLOW US DOWN AND STOP US FROM BEING ABLE TO MOVE IN GODS PURPOSE. BUT WE HAVE THE KEYS TO FORGIVNESS AND THROUGH THE POWER OF JESUS BEING SET FREE FROM THE THINGS THAT TIE US DOWN
REVELATION 12:11
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God Day and night, has been hurled down.1 They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
COCLUSION:
