Message
My friends, I hate that we have to be here for circumstances like these.
We don’t like these days, but we know they are coming our way, death is certain, it is sure as long as Jesus delays His coming.
But today we gather to say “see you in the morning to Kirby.”
I say that because for the believer there is no good by, there is only good night because our joy will indeed come one morning.
One morning we know Jesus is coming again.
And on that day, death will be no more. Sorrow and heartache no more - all because of Jesus.
Wow....
Yesterday was Good Friday, and it was also this year the beginning of Passover at 6 pm yesterday.
It was the day we remember the crucifixion of our Lord. His death on the cross, His sacrifice for us, that we might have life and have life eternal.
The Bible says that all who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved, and at the end of our days, that is what truly matters. what we have done, what decision we have made about the Savior
You see, our accomplishments, our success, all the good things we could be remembered by are nothing in comparison to this one truth… Do you believe or not...
Kirby believed and gave His heart to Christ as a young man, many years ago. Of all the accomplishments he had in life, that was the most pivotal.. For it secured his destination for the journey he took early Thursday morning.
All because God loved us enough to send His own Son to die on a cross for us one Friday, 2000 years ago.
And His death, well it paid the price for our sin, in fact the sins of the whole world, past, present and future. He redeemed us from our sin.
And it gave us life,
That is what Jesus said in John 10:10
John 10:10 ESV
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Now I know Kirby enjoyed life, He enjoyed his boys, he loved them and I know he loved Pam, 36 years married to her… He loved his mom and dad, and this family....and I know that each of you loved Him as well.
Kirby enjoyed his work, He worked hard, I always remember him around the bank. I remember he would always speak to me when I was in the bank if he saw me.
And I know a few weeks back he was talking to me, he told me then things were not going well, I knew that… but he was ready if it was his time. He wasn’t trying to hurry it along but he was ready.
And that truth helps us in days like this, it does help us.
I think of this past Thursday, we refer to it was Maundy Thursday, the night where of His arrest..
Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday. Maundy is derived from the Latin word for "command," and refers to Jesus' commandment to the disciples to "Love one another as I have loved you."
It was that night Jesus told his disciples to not worry or be heart broken, but to keep on holding on to their faith in spite of all that was about to unfold.
John 14:1–6 ESV
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
I love this passage..
Jesus tells us not to worry, stress, but instead just as you have believed in the Father, keep believing in Him. Why?
Jesus was finishing the work of the Father, He was about to die for the sins of the world, He would atone for their sin, each and every person. In doing so, he would complete the plan and work of God.
It would finish the place that was being prepared for them.. Did you hear what he said in verse 2...
John 14:2 ESV
2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
And if He left, Jesus says He would come again, to take us to the place he has prepared.
And that is what we are waiting for today, At death we enjoy heaven, The Apostle Paul says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. .. And that is good, but there is coming a future time when Jesus promised to return to take the body as well,
You see this body, the shell that lived, grew, that we loved it is only the temporary house, it will rest.. and when Jesus comes again, He will reunited the soul with the body, and this temporary home is made perfect, complete and whole.
And as Jesus finished speaking to those in the upper room that night, Thomas wasn’t sure about all Jesus had said, speaking up he said We dont know where you are going, so how can we know the way.
It was here that Jesus says Thomas… I am the way.
John 14:6 ESV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jesus is the way home...
And the best news is this, then we will be forever with the Lord, each who has believed.
Why, because of what we celebrate tomorrow .. Easter, Resurrection Sunday. Jesus is called the first fruits of the resurrection and because He rose, we will rise one that day as well.
That is the promise and in fact the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit that came after the resurrection, He is our guarantee of the good things to come.. In Him we are sealed until the day or our redemption.
And we wait for those days.. we all have dear people there, dear ones who have believed and have gone on before us.. And we want to be there as well.
But right now, we know exactly where Kirby is, He has just moved over to the Father’s house.
All you have to do, it is make sure you know the way to the Father’s house.
And if you do, well that ensures you will see Kirby again, not sick not ill, but whole , well and perfect.
and more especially, you will see Jesus.
Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith, the very one we hold onto to until we see Him and all those who have gone on before us as well.
Lets pray.
