Welcome to Easter Morning
For those who missed earlier you can go and watch it on YouTube later
We are glad you are here now
This morning we celebrate what Jesus did on the cross and especially the grave
The cross is a message of love
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
For God love each and everyone of you that He sent Jesus to the cross to pay for your debt and my sin
The cross covered our sin
So because of Jesus’s death on the cross our sin has been paid for
We can now stand before God just as if we had never sinned
See because of Jesus’s death on the cross we are justified before God
And that met and fulfilled the requirement of sin
But the death wasn’t the end of the story
If God was going to free you and I from sin there would be more
And to fully defeat sin, Jesus would need to defeat death
1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?”
Just like last week oh how they missed it right
They were coming to the grave of Jesus to finish the final preparations of the body
Because Jesus had died at the end of the Sabbath they were not able to completely finished the body for final burial
So they were coming early in the morning to do just that
Because remember Jesus had died
They had completely missed the fact that Jesus said He would rise again
30 From there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know about it. 31 For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.” 32 But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.
It would make sense they did not understand
Because for one it says
But the second this had never happened like this
Yes Lazarus had come back to life
But no one had every predicted they would die and then come back to life
And no one expect Jesus has ever died and been buried and then come back to life
Even those Jesus told them that He would be killed and that He would raise back to life 3 days after He had died
But oh how they missed it
They went to the tomb fully expecting to find Jesus there
4 Looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large. 5 Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed. 6 And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him.
As they are getting to the tomb
They see the stone has been rolled away
Note Jesus did not need the stone to be rolled away to walk out of the grave
That is not what was keeping Jesus in the grave
The stone was rolled away so that you and I can look inside and see He is no longer there
We see that right, they look in and see someone sitting there
verse 6
And he *said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him.
The angel says don’t be surprised that He is not here
He already told you that
He was crucified
He has not risen
Look for yourself where He was laid
It might have been these women were there when He was laid in the tomb
They are able to go and look inside the tomb and see that Jesus is not there
We laid Him right there and he is no longer there
The angel immediately goes to that Jesus has risen
Remember His death covered our sin
His resurrection now gives us life
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,
Jesus Himself telling Martha that He is the the resurrection and life
That those who believe in Him will have life
That is what His life give us
That is why the resurrection is oh so important
See there are different aspects of the Gospel
And all so very important
Remember Jesus’s death covered our sin
But now because the tomb is empty we can have life in Christ and Christ alone
It is through a personal relationship with Christ that we have life
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
The way to begin a personal relationship with Jesus is to repent of and trust in Jesus
When you and I confess that Jesus is Lord we are turning from all the other small lords in our life
including sin
For those who do not know Jesus their small lord is sin
BY confessing Jesus as Lord you are turning from sin
TO repent means to change your ways
To believe is to have faith that Jesus is who He says He is, the son of God
That Jesus did what He said He would do - defeat death and rise again
THis is what it is to have a personal relationship with JEsus
That is all made possible because of what happened on the first Easter Morning when those ladies went and found the tomb empty
Because church Jesus is alive
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
Let me leave you with this
This is what it is to walk with Christ
Again church to walk with Christ
To have a personal relationship with Christ is only possible because of what happened on the cross and in the tomb
My sins are covered and I am washed cleaned because of Jesus’s death
Because now Christ lives I can also have life
As the band comes up and we move to a time of invitation
Maybe you are here this morning for the first time or the for the first time in a long time
And you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus
I would invite you to the front to speak with someone who can talk to you and pray with you to receive Christ this morning
Or maybe you are here and already have a personal relationship with Jesus and you have not been walking with Jesus
I would invite you to the front this morning to repent and continue to walk with Jesus
Maybe you simply need to spend sometime at the altar in prayer
The altar is open
