As we look on the anguish of Christ. As we see his shame, and merciless death. I don't know that there are words to say. Tonight we have tried to read the scriptures together and and express in song these scriptures.
As we look on the anguish of Christ. As we see his shame, and merciless death. I don't know that there are words to say. Tonight we have tried to read the scriptures together and and express in song these scriptures.
Not my words your need but those of the God man on the cross
And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.
And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Jesus was mocked by the rulers, the soldiers, and criminals alike. Jesus response was simple to offer compassion and forgiveness. In the anguish and shame salvation shines brightly.
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
My favorite saying of Jesus on the Cross
It is finished it is paid in full. My sin, His sacrifice, My sin, His blood, My sin, His agony, My sin remembered no more.
Make no mistake your sins are paid for in one of two ways:
They are nailed to the cross and Jesus becomes the payment for your sins.
You reject this free gift of God and pay for your sins in Hell.
And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Jesus speaks the exact words of Psalm 22:1 “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?”
Jesus inst asking a question as much as expressing in words the abandonment He faced on our behalf.
Everything was going to plan.
Perhaps our best response is to agree with Jesus and ask why would God forsake is only begotten son?
When looking at the cross I tell you I have no words knowing:
my sin held him there
abandoned on my behalf
mocked by my mouth
I think Psalm 22:3 gives us words
Yet you are holy,
enthroned on the praises of Israel.
AS I look upon the cross the only words that come to mind is “Holy, Holy, Holy”
