John 7:37–39 (NKJV)
37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.
38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Jesus called to the crowd and said if anyone thrist let him come to me and drink.
When a person who is thristy come to Jesus, inorder for the Holy Ghost to be given. Two things must happen.
Jesus had to be glorified
The person must believe.
What does it mean that Jesus was not yet glorified, or When was Jesus glorified?
Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil
1 John 3:8 (NKJV)
8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
The works of the devil was sin and death
Romans 5:12–14 (NKJV)
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—
13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
the devil had dominion over God’s creation through death.
death reigned over all of mankind who were created in his image.
Death separated man from God’s presence. His spirit was restricted in this world and because of sin and death
It seemed as if the enemy has the victory, but God had a plan even to defeat death.
During this time no matter how a man was thirsty, he could not get that thrist to be quencged by the spirit of God because there was death between him and God.
1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
God promise of Hope through the Prophets
6 And in this mountain The Lord of hosts will make for all people A feast of choice pieces, A feast of wines on the lees, Of fat things full of marrow, Of well-refined wines on the lees.
7 And He will destroy on this mountain The surface of the covering cast over all people, And the veil that is spread over all nations.
8 He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken.
9 And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.”
The one true God himslef will destroy death
But how he was going to do it was not yet revealed.
4 “Yet I am the Lord your God Ever since the land of Egypt, And you shall know no God but Me; For there is no savior besides Me.
14 “I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes.
God promise to ransom us from the power of the gracve, and reddem us from death.
That he himlself will be the plague and destruction of death.
How he was going to to be the destruction and plague of death was unknown.
Hebrews 2:14–15 (NKJV)
14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
The word which was God became flesh. God became flesh and through death he destroyed him who had the power of death.
Jesus defeated the greatest enemy, and literarly became its plague and destruction.
Revelation 1:18 (KJV 1900)
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
When Jesus rose from the grave, he rose as a conquerror, have conquerored death, and him who had the power over death.
He took spoils with him, he led captivity captive.
You can imagine what kind of reception Jesus had when he came to heaven.
As the lion of Judah who has preveailed and conquered the greatest enemy of heaven.
This is what it means Jesus was glorified
Psalm 16:9–10 (KJV 1900)
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: My flesh also shall rest in hope.
10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Since he is risen having conquered death he will raise you up by his spirit.
13 Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves.
14 I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it,” says the Lord.’ ”
What we have to do is just believe.
Acts 2:1–4 (NKJV)
1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Give this time to pray for those who have not received the holy Spirit.
