Luke 23:32-34
English Standard Version Chapter 23
32 Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. 33 And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. 34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.
We see this terrible image of Jesus being crucified between two common criminals. After they drive the nails through his hands Jesus cries out to the father. “Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing”? So in the process and in the midst of Jesus tormentors, he cries out not in anger or cursing, but rather he cries out to the father pleading on his tormentors behalf for mercy and forgiveness. What an amazing love. He didn’t wait for his pain to stop. Even in the midst of his torment, he loves us.
It is in this scene that we see both the love of Jesus and his work as the high priest and intercessor for our sin. It is through his death on the cross and resurrection that even today He stands before the father and his scars plead the case for forgiveness for all those who will call upon his name. Those who will humble themselves , repent of their sins and trust in Christ as their savior. Jesus Christ is our intercessor and it is through him that our debt has been paid and our sins can be forgiven.
So I will leave you with these questions: Will you allow Jesus to intercede on your behalf? Will you come to the savior and have your sins forgiven?
