The Precedent for Peacemaking

Introduction

Good morning Church!
This morning, we are here to celebrate the who and the what that sets us apart from every other religion on earth.
We are here because of what happened on that third and glorious morning when the ground began to shake and the stone was rolled away and the unthinkable became reality!
We are here because the one and only Son of God, who was confirmed to be dead by Roman guards while crucified on a cross at Calvary; beaten, battered, bruised and buried three days earlier; rose from the dead, leading captivity captive and carrying with Him the keys of death, hell and the grave!
The once thought defeated foe of Satan, defeated that old adversary the we call the devil, by overcoming the only power he had over mankind which was death and because Jesus won the victory over death, hell and the grave, we too can be victorious through Him!
We are here today to celebrate the fact that we serve a risen Savior!
We are here today to celebrate the fact that our redeemer lives, Amen!
This morning, we are going to take just a few moments and look at our next beatitude, beatitude # 7, which ties in perfectly to our greater purpose for being here.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Today we’re going to spend just a few moments looking The Precedent of Peacemaking, the example given by the Prince of Peace Himself, the Lord Jesus Christ.
And we’re going to use Ephesians 2:11-22 as our backdrop for looking at our message today.
So, if you have your Bible’s I’d ask you to turn with me to Ephesians 2:11-22. If you have it would you say, Amen.

The Problem of Humanity

1 John 2:15–17 KJV 1900
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
James 4:4 KJV 1900
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Isaiah 59:1–2 KJV 1900
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; Neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, And your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
Romans 3:10–18 KJV 1900
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 And the way of peace have they not known: 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
Isaiah 48:22 KJV 1900
22 There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked.
Romans 8:5–8 KJV 1900
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

The Provision of Peace

Isaiah 9:6–7 KJV 1900
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, Upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, To order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice From henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Romans 5:1 KJV 1900
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Isaiah 53 KJV 1900
1 Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, And as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; And when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: And we hid as it were our faces from him; He was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, And carried our sorrows: Yet we did esteem him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon him; And with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned every one to his own way; And the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, Yet he opened not his mouth: He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, So he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: And who shall declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living: For the transgression of my people was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, And with the rich in his death; Because he had done no violence, Neither was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: When thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, He shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: By his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; For he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, And he shall divide the spoil with the strong; Because he hath poured out his soul unto death: And he was numbered with the transgressors; And he bare the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.

The Process of Peacemaking

Colossians 1:20 (KJV 1900)
20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Romans 5:10 (KJV 1900)
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
2 Corinthians 5:17–21 KJV 1900
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

The Preaching of Peace

Romans 10:15 KJV 1900
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
Ephesians 6:15 KJV 1900
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

The Pronouncement of Peace

Psalm 34:14 KJV 1900
14 Depart from evil, and do good; Seek peace, and pursue it.
Romans 12:18 KJV 1900
18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
2 Corinthians 13:11 KJV 1900
11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
Isaiah 26:3 KJV 1900
3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on thee: Because he trusteth in thee.
Psalm 37:37 KJV 1900
37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: For the end of that man is peace.
Jeremiah 29:11 KJV 1900
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
