Genesis 26
Genesis 26
Verse 1-5
God warns Isaac not to make the same error as his Father Abraham by going down to Egypt because of famine.
If he trust God and remain in the promise land even in time of famine, God would bless him.
This blessing is connected to what Abraham Had done.
Verse 6-7
Like Father like son
Isaac out of fear for his life lies about rebekah to keep himself safe.
The fear of man leads to a trap but he who trusts in the Lord is safe.
Verse 12-13
Clearly the effect of the famine was not felt by Isaac and his people, Isaac did not only survive but flourished in times of famine.
Psalm 37:18–19 (NKJV)
18 The Lord knows the days of the upright, And their inheritance shall be forever.
19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
Verse 23
God promises to bless Isaac because of Abraham his servant
The cause of Isaac’s blessing was not solely based on his deeds towards God but also the deed of his father Abraham.
Our blessing are connected with our spiritual forfathers, this knowledge keeps us from being proudfull.
Verse 25-33
His neighbors saw the blessings and witnessed that God was with him.
Verse 34
We see the type of person Esau was. He was a man who completley disregarded the precept of his parents, and also of God and did whatever pleased him.
Genesis 27
Genesis 27
Verse 1-10
You have to admire Rebekah’s desire and zeal for her son to inherit the blessing. She had set her eyes on the inheritance and blessing spoken of by God to Abaham and Isaac.
Proverbs 19:2, ESV, desire without knoweldge is not good and he who hasten with his feet sins.
She was hasty to make sure her son receives the blessing and she wen’t about it the wrong way, in convincing her son to be hasty with her feet.
Verse 12-13
She said to Jacob that his curse be upon her when his father finds out.
She did indeed reapp it, she never saw her son again.
Verse 14-29
Isaac does not realise its jacob so he blesses him
Verse 30-40
When Esau realised what he had lost, he wept with exceeding bitter cry.
Though his brother had supplanted (superseded him with treachery), he was to be blamed, because he sold his brithright at the first.
16 lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright.
17 For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.
Those people who sell their inheritance, this truth for momentary reliefs from hardship, tribulation, persecution that come with this truth. At the end when the time to receive the blessing comes, they will find themsleves being rejected and there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
We must not sell the truth, no matter how difficult the way gets.
Sadly Esau did not get it, he was blaming his brother instead of blaming himslef.
verse 41-46
those “few days” become more than twenty years, in which Rebekah would die and see her son no more.
The curse came upon her, she reaped what she sowed, this was in which she sayed goodby to her son not realising that she would not see him again.
Gal 6:7 “7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”
Genesis 28
Genesis 28
1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,
2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven,
