Jesus is the Rock!
The Bible Refers about as accurately of Jesus being the Rock… Why is that?
Because in Matthew Jesus tells us of the Parable about 2 men that built houses. 1 built on Sinking Sand and the other built on the Rock.. Well the Rains came to both but the one built on the Rock lasted.
Jesus was letting us know why having a relationship built on the rock is not only necessary but it is critical to our walk in this life.
Hebrews 12:27 Tells us that Everything that can be shaken will be in your life and in mine, in this world, in America and in the World and that when it is all said and done the things that are not made of God will not stand.
What is that?
That which is made and partook of the Rock will last.
Today I want to talk to you about that Rock!
Why is that Rock so important to us, why is it so critical to us?
There is Honey in the Rock!
Psalm 81:16 “He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: And with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.”
Psalm 81:16 I would satisfy you with wild honey from the rock
Today many Christians are failing to find the honey in the rock.
I been encouraging myself and I want to encourage you today to find the honey back in the rock.
This world, this walk will wear you down that we don’t even go back for that honey after we been saved a while…
David said it best – O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”
Why does it taste good?
Because there is just something that happens when you get around that Rock, when you begin to anchor into it in:
In the Guinness book of world records – Honey is listed as the sweetest substance known to man…
· Worship – Peace comes from that Rock
· Praise – Freedom Comes From That rock
· It Satisfies – In this world nothing satisfies… Lust, Worldly Desires… It leaves you empty..
It leaves you hopeless..
It leaves you hungry..
But not that Honey from the Rock…
There is water in the Rock!
Exodus 17:5-6 “And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.
Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink.
And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.”
Here is Moses – They are in the wilderness, in battle, thirsty and Moses said what do we do… God Said, I will go and stand up on the Rock in Horeb
– Horeb was the place where the 10 Commandments would come from, the place where Elijah would go into a cave and find God… It was a holy mountain..
And God said I will go and stand on the rock and you are to smite it and water will flow…
A perfect analogy of Jesus being the smitten rock… Jesus told the woman at the well, if you drink of the Water I give you shall thirst no more…
The Rock has the water we need to fill our thirst..
People in this world are thirsty for something real that is lasting!
Thirsty for sin,
The world has even accepted it in the urban dictionary refers to someone who is thirsty as desperate.. Well that woman at the well was the first example of thirsty..
But what the world won’t tell you is once you drink of the living water, once you take a drink from the cup of Jesus – everything that you have need us, every desire, every longing, every need, every want is satisfied…
That Rock is your anchor
Psalm 62:2 “He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.”
When you find the rock you find an anchor for your soul and for your life!
This world changes, it grows worse as time progresses.. It’s the human nature..
We see it from the times of Adam and Eve to Noah.. From Noah to the Tower of Babel… From Jesus to now…
Jesus said this world will wax worse and worse, it will get harder to exist in this world as a Christian..
Why?
Because we even see it..
The world call evil good, and good evil..
And the word of God, our Rock Jesus is never changing..
He is the chief corner stone, the unmovable rock, the one that never sleeps or slumbers.. the Bible tells us he changes not!
There is Shelter in the Rock!
Isaiah 2:10 “Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, For fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty.”
The rock will keep you, the rock will protect you, the rock is your shelter in the storm.. David found the rock, Samuel found the Rock, The Apostles found that rock…
This world is full of worry – the Rock says “Fear not, be of good cheer”, Take no thought for tomorrow
The world is full of hurt – the Rock said – Peace I give you not as the world giveth
In the Rock is Strength!
Psalm 18:2 “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”
My strength when I am weak..
When I can’t do it myself..
When I struggle he is the strength…
I have to trust the rock will hold, I have to trust the fortress, the deliverer
The Rock is higher than you!
Psalm 61:2 “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
I am thankful that the Rock is higher than I today.. His viewpoint is not my view point..
He looks high and he sees low.. Every Valley I am in, he never looses sight of me..
I can look to God…
How Do We Build on that Rock, How do we be partakers of that Rock?
Matthew 7:26-27 “And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”
How do we live it, how do we build on it, how do we partake of it?
It starts with the Word….
Being obedient to first his written word, then to the spiritual word..
That which comes through revelation through prophecy, through divine knowledge of the Holy Ghost.
1.
You are going to make mistakes, you are going to get angry, have lust, say things you shouldn’t do things you shouldn’t
Building on that rock means to have a repentant heart!
At all times, never allow self righteousness to enter into your heart.. Pride goth before a fall
Follow his commandments – This word lays out how we should walk.. Obedience is better than sacrifice
Allow the Holy Ghost to lead and Guide
4. Endure to the end.. Be faithful!
