2 Timothy 1:8-11

Theme: Faithfulness
Key verse: v.7
Key word: “Lord” (vs.2,8,16,18)
18 verses; 433 words Grade level: 6.35
Outline:
Paul’s Status in the Ministry. v.1
Paul’s Son in the Ministry. v.2
Paul’s Struggles in the Ministry. vs.3-18
Here are the SUBJECTS in the school of the Saviour:

I. Afflictions. v.8

Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
afflictions
The cause of continued pain of body or mind, as sickness, losses, calamity, adversity, persecution.
Psalm 34:19 AV
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

II. According. v.9

8b according to the power of God;
9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
according
harmonizing; like as in a chorus of voices
Not our works as they are filthy rags!
God’s purpose and grace is what we are to harmonize with.

III. Appearing. v.10

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
appearing
Coming in sight
Titus 3:4–8 (AV)
4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

IV. Appointed. v.11

Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
appointed
1. Fixed; set; established; decreed; ordained; constituted; allotted.
2. Furnished; equipped with things necessary; as, a ship or an army is well appointed.
