New Series: Living in Power - Viviendo en Poder

Greetings family!
Welcome to Redemption Church.
Today we are starting an exciting series called “LIVING IN POWER”.
It is important to understand that this series is targeted toward those who have a relationship with God through Jesus. Without that relationship, everything we talk about is useless.
If you would like to give your life completely to Jesus, confess that you are a sinner and believe that He is the Savior. Ask Him to forgive your sins and surrender to Him as King. The Bible says in Romans 10:9
Romans 10:9 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9 RVR60
Come talk to one of the leader’s afterward if you have questions or have made this eternal decision. We would love to rejoice with you and help you get started.

To start off our series on Living in Power, let’s take a look at

Power of Words - Poder de las Palabras

I want to start with some scriptures about words:
Hebrews 11:3 NKJV
3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
Hebrews 11:3 RVR60
In Hebrews 11:3, we see the worlds were framed by the WORD OF GOD.
All of creation was made not by the hands of God, but by the word of God. We see this also in Genesis.
The Bible says God made you and me in His image. There are no other species like us.
*Did you ever wonder why no other species of living thing use words?
There is power in your words. Not power to make things appear like God does.
Let’s read the next passage to see more.
Proverbs 18:21 NKJV
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21 RVR60
Proverbs 18:21 tells us that our tongue/words contain the power of DEATH AND LIFE.
With your words, you are able to build up and to tear down.
*Have you ever had someone say something mean to you?
…they spoke death to you?
Do you still remember it?
Does it still hurt?
Paul tells us how we must use our words.
Ephesians 4:29 NKJV
29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
Ephesians 4:29 RVR60
Paul exhorts us to not allow corrupt words to be spoken. (Ephesians 4:29)
(Efesios 4:29)
This includes foul language, dirty jokes, lying, deceiving, tearing others down.
What is Paul telling us we should use our words for?
Edifying
Encouraging
Building up
Edifying words are NECESSARY to GIVE GRACE.
He calls it “Necessary”. Because we need to hear words like this!!!
Encouraging words is one of the ways we give grace to others.

Sword Analogy - Analogía de la espada

Hebrews 4:12 NKJV
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 RVR60
The Word of God is LIVING and POWERFUL
La Palabra de Dios es VIVA y EFICAZ
English: The what of God? The Word of God
Spanish: La que de Dios? La Palabra de Dios
ANALOGY
My sons have been so excited about swords. I would say, “Oh, that is a need sword.” and they would say, “Dad! That is a katana”, or “that is a kutless”.
They knew many different types of swords and even why they were made the way they were made.
Some blades are for killing people (WW2 Blade)
Some are for kutting bushes (Machete)
Some are for being silly (Big pocket knife)
Some are for krafting (Xacto knife)
Some are for surgery (like doctors use)
You would not want a Doctor to use a pocket knife for surgery.
You would not want to go to war with an Xacto knife.
A skilled swordsman or doctor, who knows how to use these tools apply them with precision for the purpose they were made for.
Would you be okay with me doing surgery on you without any training on how to use a medical blade?
That would be a very bad choice.
The Bible called the Word of God sharper than a double-edged sword.
It is precise, better than a skilled doctor. That Word of God is Jesus. He is in you and has given you the Holy Spirit to teach you both to USE and RECEIVE words powerfully.
Powerful words are SPOKEN and RECEIVED.

The Power of Spoken Words - El Poder de las Palabras Habladas

The words we speak to others will either be life-giving or death-inflicting.
Learning how to use words well, we need to start with our heart. Luke 6:45
Luke 6:45 NKJV
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Luke 6:45 RVR60
Luke 6:45 tells us that our mouths speak what our hearts are treasuring.
So, if you allow evil things to be treasured in your heart, you will not be able to overflow words that are life-giving.
This is why we are so adamant about what we watch on TV, what we listen to on the radio/streaming service.
There are Jesus-loving Christians that fill their heart with so much earthly junk that they get frustrated with bad things happen and they don’t respond well.

Guard your Heart/ Cuida tu corazón
Proverbs 4:23 NIV
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Proverbs 4:23 RVR60
Measure your words/ Mide tus palabras
Proverbs 15:1 NKJV
1 A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.
Proverbs 15:1 RVR60
Proverbs 16:24 NKJV
24 Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.
Proverbs 16:24 RVR60
Learn the time - place - and manner to speak.
Guard your Mouth by 3 “life gates”/ Guarda tu Boca por 3 “puertas de la vida”
Will it glorify God? ¿Glorificará a Dios?
Will it edify the hearer? ¿Edificará al Oyente?
Is it spoken in love? ¿Se habla en el amor?

The Power of Receiving Words - El Poder de Recibir Palabras

We talked through the keys to life-giving words, but we are not usually affected by the words we speak (directly). We are affected by the words we receive.
We receive words from: Recibimos palabras de:
Ourselves - Nosotros mismos
Other People - Otras personas
The Media/Entertainment - Medios/Entretenimiento
Music - Música
Demons - demonios
The Holy Spirit - El Espíritu Santo
Line through the ones that are death-inflicting

Keys to Defending your heart - Claves para Defender tu Corazón

Consider the source - Considere la Fuente
Is the source a source of life or death?
Does it pass through the “life gates”? ¿Pasa por las “puertas de la vida”?
Glorifying God, Edifying people, spoken in love
If you are not sure, pray about it. Allow the Holy Spirit to be the source.
Is it in line with God’s Word?
Remember that all of creation began with God’s spoken Word.
He gave us “The Word” as John calls Jesus “The Word”.
His Word is to lead us and guide us.
Psalm 119:105 NKJV
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105 RVR60
105 Lámpara es a mis pies tu palabra, Y lumbrera a mi camino.
As we close, there are some here who have been hurt so badly by the deathly words of others. Some have spoken those deathly words recently.
Understanding that your words have power, I want us to do this together:
If you received hurtful words, I want you to:
Confess those hurts to Jesus. Let Him know you are hurting.
Forgive the ones who said them. Just as Jesus asked His Father to forgive those who hurt Him.
Surrender those hurts to Jesus. He will take them and bring healing to your heart.
If you spoke hurtful words, I want you to:
Confess that sin before Jesus. Ask Him to forgive you for your hurtful words.
Consider what caused those words to be spoken.
Ask the people your hurt to forgive you using the following:
Ownership - Propiedad
I said these things and they were hurtful.
Responsibility - Responsabilidad
I should not have said that. It was wrong.
I am sorry. Please forgive me.
Action - Acción
Either ask “How can I make it right?” or
Tell them how you will keep from doing it again.
