Introduction
Who is Micah?
Why should we preach from Micah?
I. Declaration
:God is coming
We are told to “hear”
All people must hear the word of God
This is important
The Word of God is important for your life and must be heard
This coming of God is what is called a Theophany (3-4)
Jud 5; Is 64; Hab 3; all include Theophanies
Theophanies declare the arrival of God, the affect upon nature, and the action of God
But in verse 5 of Micah we find a shock, he is not coming to save, but to declare judgement upon sin
The message of Michah begins in with the declaration that “the Lord is coming.”
(v. 3)
This message of His coming was not good news for the people
Yet we have a message that is good news of the Lords coming in the New Testament
The Lord is coming.
First, He came to save us from judgment
Soon, He will come to judge the world
This will be a time of Joy for all Christians
For those who are awaiting his appearing
This is why the Early church Cried out Marantatha
We have a great hope laid up for us in Glory
II.
Lamentation
: For Sin and The Lost
Micah Mourned and Lamented the coming of the Judgment of the Lord upon his people
He is showing the heart of God
Every Believer should mourn for the Lost
They will perish
You should love people enough to tell them that
Every Person who does not truly know Jesus should mourn the coming of the Lord.
Christs coming is only bad for those who do not know him
If you are “in” Christ, you should be happily awaiting his coming
TO be in Christ is to have faith IN Christ and walk in that Faith
Remember, we are a joyful people, because we possess a hope in Glory
III.
Accusation
:The sins of the people
The sins of the people are from a place of corruption of power
These people were thinking about evil so much they would stay up at night then do it the next day!
(1)
They took land, and houses from families (2)
they would take the robe off of the back from people who were simply passing through the land (7)
They were mistreating single mothers (9)
Therefore the Lord says e will bring it back to them.
(3-4)
This place, Israel, was soon to be a place of destruction (10-11)
THIS WAS NOT the way the people of God were supposed to act
Michah preached even when they did not want him to preach!
(6)
IV.
Restoration
:God’s Hope for His people
Although Judgment has been declared to the people, God promises to the people of Israel hope
He promises the people of God hope in the midst of this World
