Series: Renew 2014
Date: April 27, 2014
Text: Isaiah 40: 26-31
Renewing Our Strength
Introduction:
I.
A Reality to Acknowledge- vs. 27, 29-30
A. Forgetting when guided by the temporary
1.
When focusing only on the here and now we tend to overlook the blessings of the past and promises of the future.
2. God has not forgotten who you are and what you are going through.
Luke 12:6-7
(6) Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
(7) But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrow.
2 Corinthians 4:18
(18) While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
B. Fainting while going through trials
2 Corinthians 4:16-17
16- For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
17- For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
1.
Sometimes trials are to provide opportunities for prayer.
Luke 18:1
1- And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
2. Sometimes trials happen while we are directly in the Will of God for our lives.
Ex.
Disciples in the boat
Galatians 6:9
9- And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
3. Sometimes trials are to refine us to meet God’s ultimate goal for our lives-to be more like Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:29
29- For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Hebrews 12:5
5- And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
C. Falling when giving into temptations
James 1:12-15
12- Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13- Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14- But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15- Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Let’s be honest with ourselves: many times we tend to forget that difficulties are temporary, we tend to faint(give up too easily) when going through a rough stretch, we fall into a vicious cycle of sin when temptations come into our lives!!!
The Reality is this: we are sinners and we have a bent toward sin!!!
The warfare that we face is very real and it is extremely difficult to overcome if not impossible to defeat on our own!!!
But, GOD has not left us ALONE in this battle!!!
Philippians 4:13
13- I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
II.
A Resource that is Available- vs. 26, 28
Note-a resource is only good if it is used by those that need it!!!
Ex.
Man broke down in a model T….looking over it and trying to figure out what the problem was…another man pulled up and walked over offering to help…the broke down man out of pride and arrogance looked at this “City slicker” in a suit and promptly begin to turn him down.
The one with the broken car told the “man in a suit” that he had fixed cars before and he did not need his help.
The man in the suit walked over and drove off…the man that was broken down never realized that he had just turned down the man that had designed and built the Model T….Henry Ford
A. The Creator of all the Earth- vs. 26
“Lift”-get your eyes off of your failures, fortune, yourself and Lift them up to God.
Psalms 8:3-4
3- When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
4- What is man, that thou art mindful of him?
and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
Psalms 19:1
1- To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
Colossians 1:16-17
16- For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17- And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
B. A Companion that Endures
“fainteth not, neither is weary”
Most of us can identify with “fair weather friends”
Philippians 1:6
6- Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Psalms 138:8
8- The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
23- And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24- Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
C. A Call to the Eternal
“the everlasting God”
Genesis 1:1
1- In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Revelation 21:6
6- And he said unto me, It is done.
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.
I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
John 3:15-16
15- That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16- For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
III.
A Requirement to Accept- vs. 31
Note: I understand that I often forget, faint, and fall.
My strength fades away and I grow weary and tired and want to just give up.
I am glad to hear that God is there for me…but how do I make this truth a part of my life?
I need help…God is the answer so what do I do now????
A. Rest on His promises
1. Contained in the Word of God
Romans 1:2-4
2- (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
3- Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
4- And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
2. Consistent with His Character
Titus 1:2
2- In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
