6-5, God Blesses Those Who Know And Keep The Book Of Revelation, Revelation 1:9-20; 22:6-21
17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, 18 and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. 19 Write therefore the things that you have seen, those that are and those that are to take place after this.
You have seen (Chapter 1)
Things that are (Chapter 2-3)
Those that are to take place after this (4-22)
Based on this passage, I look at the final and largest portion of Revelation to take place in the future.
Some believe that these things occurred mainly with the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.
Others believe that Revelation is fulfilled over the last 2,000 years during seasons and times of persecution.
Others like to detach Revelation from the physical world or history and interpret it strictly in a symbolic or nonliteral way, depicting the spiritual struggle between good and evil.
However, by looking at 4-22 as in the future, at the end of the age, I assert it allows you to understand Revelation in the most natural way based on a plain reading of the text.
Key to this is interpreting things literally unless there are obvious or reasonable ways to take the words figuratively.
So, heaven is going to be filled with people who presently have different views and interpretation of Scripture.
There are many different Christ followers who believe the fundamentals of the faith that saves, but reason and the interpretation of the Word leads them to different conclusions about books like Revelation. It’s good to follow the quote of reformation preacher Rupertus Meldenius:
In the essentials- unity
In the non-essentials- liberty
In everything- charity
If you want to know more about why I approach this as a futurist, you can come on Wednesday night at 6:00 PM
