A Defining story for David and a highlight of the OT, David and Goliath.
A Defining story for David and a highlight of the OT, David and Goliath.
We hear references to this story in popular culture, between rivals on the hardwood, war-torn nations, and political opponents at election time.
1 Sam 17
David was trying to do the right thing, not the big thing.
David was trying to do the right thing, not the big thing.
You and I may never do something BIG for God, but we can do and be who God wants us to Do and Be.
Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
Here are 4 Things That Prepared David to Do Big Things for God:
Do Small Things Well. 17-20
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Stay Humble. 25-29
Be humble or you will stumble!
Pride goeth before destruction,
And an haughty spirit before a fall.
Some people are “Humbly proud!” A walking contradiction; proud of their humility. Cancels each other out.
A man can counterfeit love, he can counterfeit faith, he can counterfeit hope and all the other graces, but it is very difficult to counterfeit humility.
Dwight Lyman Moody (1837–1899)
Remain Steady. 32-37
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Give the Credit to God. 37,45-47
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Today's Best Illustrations, Volumes 1-4 To Know Him Is to Serve Him
The proportion in which I know my Lord is the proportion in which I am prepared to serve Him. Is it not certain that when I know as I am known I shall be more perfectly prepared to serve?
