When you shine a light into a mirror what do you get?
A light in a mirror reflects the light to somewhere else.
This is exactly what John did.
He was here to tell of the messiah Jesus Christ.
Think of this, what do we tend to think when good things happen in our life.
who or what do we tend to point to.
How does this statement make you feel
I worked hard this week and two people got saved?
that saying to me sits badly
It sounds like bragging when in reality I didn’t do anything.
The same could be said for almost anything.
Yes, work is involved to get good at sports but some people do just have a God given athletic ability.
You can practice singing, but no matter what you do some people will never be able to carry a tune very well.
Certainly they can get better, but there is something to be said about God given natural ability.
I say this because the truth is that in each thing that we participate in God has given us the ability to do so.
Now there were two reasons that John was doing what he was doing.
Can anyone tell me what those reason’s were?
Let’s look at the scripture, John 1:6-9
So John came
He came as a witness to bear witness about the light (this was his immediate goal)
in other words, the promised messiah is coming!
2. So that all may believe (so that everyone would hear the gospel and believe)
So as the mirror and the light our goal is to point back to Jesus Christ.
Our goal is to tell so that they may believe
In everything we do with our life we have to share the Gospel.
We are called to live our life for him.
Thin of this just as Jesus was coming when John was teaching so is her now.
We are here in anticipation of the return of Jesus Christ to bring us home.
Why should we tell of the grace of Christ?
We should tell of it for two reasons really
What he did for us.
He came to this earth and according to today's scripture he was not accepted but he was condemned.
He came for us and we rejected him.
Yet he died on the cross so that we may live.
2. The Great Commission
So lastly I will say, it is important that we reflect Christ with our life.
Without us being willing to step out of our comfort zone or without us atleast being willing to act changed we cannot see what God could do in and through us.
