We talk about tragedy turned into triumph. We get small versions of that, but God once and for all, in an act that stands at the very center of our universe, for all time, he reversed tragedy into triumph. He turned the injustice of an innocent man condemned into salvation for all of us, who are guilty as sin. He turned the turning of a people upon their God unto death into God rescuing His people from death. He turned death into resurrected, eternal and glorious life.
And so, as He commanded, we remember.
The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
Take and eat
In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
Take and drink
For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
