Question 1
Question 1
You say in your book,
Genesis 1–2 introduces a story that anticipates the creation of an extraordinary city where God will dwell in harmony with humanity. (COG, 29)
Can you speak to how a city is in view in that opening garden scene?
Question 2
Question 2
In reference to Babel/Babylon you say,
The City of God and the Goal of Creation Conclusion > Chapter 1: The Godless City
This metropolis, however, is the antithesis of what God desires.
How does the episode in Genesis 11 about the construction of the new city of Babel/Babylon contrast with the city God has in view in Genesis 1 and 2?
Question 3
Question 3
You write,
The City of God and the Goal of Creation Abraham: “Father” of a New Humanity
Abraham looked forward in faith to the creation of a city designed and built by God.
So we have the biblical story opening with this beautiful reality that God desires to dwell in harmony with his people in a great garden city, yet as we proceed through the narrative recorded in Gen. 1-11 we see humanity scattered throughout the earth after attempting to build their own Godless city. It would be really nice if Genesis 12 started with a word of hope. Does Abraham some how anticipate the restoration of God’s original intention to dwell with his people?
