Text Matt 16:18
Introduction: A building must be built upon a solid foundation, a foundation of rock. The Greek word for Peter is Petros, meaning a pebble or small stone. We are all small stones used to build up the church. Jesus is often referred to as The Rock, originating from the Greek word Petra, meaning massive rock. Because Jesus is the cornerstone of the church. But what does it mean to be a rock? What is the foundation that we must build upon?
Transitional Sentence: Lets begin building the church by discussing how to lay the foundation.
The Foundation 1: Jesus is the cornerstone A: Ephesians 2:20 2: Jesus is the Foundation B: 1st Corinthians 3:11 The Building Blocks 1: We are the building blocks A: 1st Peter 2:4-5 The Church Will Not Fall 2: Nothing prevails against it A: Matthew 7: 24-25
Conclusion: A house built from straw gets blown away by a large wind. A house built from sticks comes crashing down at the slightest amount of force against it. But a house built from stones will endure whatever comes its way. We are the rocks used to build the church, Jesus is the foundation the church stands on. How will you build your church? What foundation will you lay your life upon. Build your life on a solid foundation, the only foundation worth building on, Jesus Christ.
