Purpose: To show the audience what God, as our Shepherd, does for us.

Introduction

You have probably heard that “the Lord is our Shepherd”, but have you taken a moment to examine what that actually means? Have you meditated on what your heavenly Father does for you? In this sermon, we will see why God is our Shepherd.
Now we will see why God is our Shepherd...

Why God is our Shepherd

God is our Shepherd because:
Our Shepherd leads us down paths of righteousness (Psalms 23:3)
Our Shepherd is a God of righteousness. Since His ways are righteous, so is His lead. He restores our souls and leads us down the right path.
His ways, although they demand sacrifice, lead to green pastures (Psalms 23:2). Many have had to give up many things on the path of righteousness. There are many Biblical examples. One of them is Jesus’ disciples.
Anything unrighteous that presents itself in our lives, He advises us against it, and when we stray away from the herd, He relentlessly pursues, leaves the rest, and searches for the missing lamb. Why? Because He loves us. The Good Shepherd loves His sheep. (Luke 15:4–7)
Our Shepherd is with us in times of trouble (Psalms 23:4)
God is always with us. He is with us in both good times and in the bad. We are His sheep, so we must remain in His herd. When adversity comes into our lives, we must not fear because our Shepherd is with us. When your family member dies, when you can’t pass that test, when someone breaks your heart, when your parents divorce; whatever the reason may be, He’s guiding you through it. He is with us in the fire and says “trust Me”. He leads us through adversity with His rod and staff.
Our Shepherd exalts us over our enemies (Psalm 23:5)
Our God is our defender. He protects us from our enemies in every way, like a shepherd protects his sheep from the wolf, the Good Shepherd protects His flock anyone who opposes them.
Our God does not disappoint. When the world is against His flock, He always steps in and makes Himself known and backs His children.
Our God blesses us in front of our enemies. To all those who threaten us, to those who make us feel lesser than what we are; stick with the Good Shepherd for He shall bless you and your enemies shall see God’s glory.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the God we worship surely is the Good Shepherd. Without Him, we are nothing. We can see that God is the Good Shepherd because He leads us down paths of righteousness, He is with us in times of trouble, and He exalts us over our enemies. God does all of this and so much more out of love for you and for me.
My calling to you is this: stay in the flock of the Good Shepherd because outside of the flock of God, there is nothing for us but perdition.
