Matthew 6:21
Good evening everyone watching by video this evening,,, it's time for our weekly devotion,,, as we continue our walk with God this week.
I'm praying that all of you are having a wonderful week so far.
As I've said the last several weeks,,, we need to continue to remember those that are dealing with this virus.
Those that are sick,,, since there are many others dealing with this sickness as it continues to grow and,,, those that have lost loved ones,,, we need to continue to remember them as well.
Remember the medical teams that are dealing with this and any others that must work and take a chance of contacting this virus.
Also,,, continue to remember those on our prayer list,,, and our country and it’s leaders.
---------------
Our devotion this evening comes from Billy Graham's "Unto the Hills: A Daily Devotional".
Our scripture will be Matthew 6:21 and I'll be reading from the Holman Christian Standard Bible.
Matthew 6:21 (HCSB) —
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
God bless the reading and the hearing of your word this evening.
Let us pray:
Dear Lord,,, as we begin this evening,,, with all that are listening and watching by video,,, we ask that you open our ears to hear and our hearts and minds to receive the message that you have for us today,,, In Jesus' name I pray,,, Amen.
---------------
We spend so much of our day to day activities preparing for worldly things.
I understand that we must work to provide for our families,,, but we have a tendency to get hung up on extras that take time away from what God wants us to do.
When that happens,,, we have lost sight of what's truly important.
---------------
Billy Graham titled this devotion,,, "WHERE IS YOUR TREASURE?"
He said,,, "The rich young ruler who came to Jesus was so filled with his piety,,, his riches,,, and his greed,,, that he revolted when Jesus informed him that the price of eternal life was to “sell out” and come and follow Him.
He went away sorrowfully,,, the Bible says,,, because he could not detach himself,,, from himself.
He found it impossible to become “poor in spirit” because he had such a lofty estimate of his own importance.
All around us today,,, we see arrogance,,, pride,,, and selfishness:,,, these are the results of sin.
He says in Revelation 3:18-19: A voice from the heavens speaking to a tormented, bankrupt world says beginning in verse 18:“I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
And verse 20 says: Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:18, 20).
Heaven in this life and the life to come is not on a monetary standard.
Nor can flesh and blood find the door to the Kingdom of heaven with its contentment,,, peace,,, joy,,, and happiness.
Only those who are poor in spirit and rich toward God shall be accounted worthy to enter there,,, because they come not in their own merit,,, but in the righteousness of the Redeemer.
Someone has said, “A man’s wealth consists not in the abundance of his possessions, but in the fewness of his wants.”
“The first link between my soul and Christ,” said C. H. Spurgeon, “is not my goodness but my badness, not my merit but my misery, not my riches but my need.”
Where is your treasure?
In the bank?
In the driveway?
In the mirror?
Or are you storing up your treasure in heaven?
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,,, help us to realize when we are chasing our materialistic extra’s instead of what you want us to do.
You have blessed us beyond belief, yet so often we still want more.
Forgive us, Lord, and help us to find contentment in whatever situation we find ourselves in.
Help us to know our wealth is in You and Your Son who saved us.
Amen.
Graham, Billy.
