Romans 6:1-5 – 1 Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? 2 Of course not!

Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?

3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? 4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism.

And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was.

Romans 6:1-5 – 1 So what do we do?

Keep on sinning so God can keep on forgiving? 2 I should hope not!

If we’ve left the country where sin is sovereign, how can we still live in our old house there? 3 Or didn’t you realize we packed up and left there for good?

That is what happened in baptism.

When we went under the water, we left the old country of sin behind; when we came up out of the water, we entered into the new country of grace – a new life in a new land!

3 That’s what baptism into the life of Jesus means.

4 When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus.

5 Each of us is raised into a light-filled world by our Father so that we can see where we’re going in our new grace-sovereign country.

Romans 6:4-7 – 4 When we were baptized, we died and were buried with Christ.

We were baptized, so that we would live a new life, as Christ was raised to life by the glory of God the Father.

5 If we shared in Jesus’ death by being baptized, we will be raised to life with him.

6 We know that the persons we used to be were nailed to the cross with Jesus.

This was done, so that our sinful bodies would no longer be the slaves of sin.

7 We know that sin doesn’t have power over dead people.
