Visual Proclamations

Acts 10:44-48

The Holy Spirit came

Acts 5:32 We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him

Sign that they had truly believed

Baptism:

1. Identify with Christ and His Death, Burial and Resurrection

2. Shows what has happened in our hearts.

Rom. 6:2 We are those who have died to sin...

Rom. 6:6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with…

Rom. 6:4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

It is a visual proclamation

A short summary of the Gospel

The Lord’s Supper

The O.T. Passover feast

Note: The early church also held the Lord’s Supper as a feast

Symbolizes Christ’s redemptive work

The bread was unleavened showing Christ’s sinlessness

The cup after supper - the last cup Luke 22:20, 1Cor. 11:25

Exodus 6:7 I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.

Jesus proclaimed Himself as YHWH of the Old Testament.

Christ commanded that we continue holding the Lord’s Supper to proclaim His death until He returns.

We are acting out the message.

Visual proclamation of His death for us.

As we prepare:

It is open to all who have truly made a commitment to follow Christ.

We should examine ourselves to ensure we are taking it seriously.

1 Cor. 11:27-30 So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

Invitation:

Examine your relationship with Christ

Pray for cleansing in preparation.

Reflect on Christ's Sacrifice
