A few years ago, Tom on His death bed. The doctors didn’t believe that he would make it. He pulled through. The joy, of that prayer being answered.
Luke 24:36

He has Risen

The disciples are locked in a room. Consumed by utter defeat.
Jesus, their hope enters.
John 20:19
John 20:19 ESV
19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
Gives us more detail.
They were hiding in this room for fear that they would be killed next.
The door was locked to that no one could break in, then Jesus appears to them.
Can you see why they would be startled and afraid?!
What a glorious moment, that time when utter defeat you believed had taken place; and now you see your friend, your rabbi, the messiah standing alive before you.
v.38
Why are you troubled.
They were because they didn’t know what was going on.
They had a mistake view of what Jesus would do, that He would rise.
The troubles in our lives arise from our mistakes concerning Christ.
Our concerns, our troubles, the situations that make us anxious.
What are we called to do?
Lay them at the feet of Jesus, cast our cares upon Him.
Do we? Or do we play with a ball on a string. We throw it to Jesus and pull it back.
The sadness and the sorrows.
Our pain is real.
Grieving must take place when we lose someone we love.
But do we see the larger picture? We will see them again in heaven.
We have eternity to spend with them.
Financial situations
Building project.
God owns the cattle on a thousand hills.
That might mean that God has blessed you with abundant cattle, the reason He has blessed you was for a day like this.
Maybe it’s not allot, just a little. But God is the one who can give the increase.
Not a Spirit
v.38-39
Jesus showing them that, He isn’t a disembodied spirit.
He is giving them proof of His resurrection!!
Jesus shows them His scars
Proof on His body of the sacrifice that He has made for them.
Jesus allows them to touch Him.
Their fingers won’t go through Him like a hologram.
Know that He is real.
v.41
They still disbelieved.
They weren’t fully convinced yet.
Further proof of the resurrection.
EVEN THE DISCIPLES WERE SKEPTICAL!
They had joy and marveled becasue of how great this was!!
But, they still disbelieved in the power of God.
Have you anything to eat.
They believed spirit’s couldn’t eat.
This is further evidence the he was alive.
This was the same thing they did with Lazarus after his resurrection.
Glorified Body
We see Jesus raised from the dead.
He still has a physical body. One that bears the marks of what happened to him before.
But yet different, for Jesus had to convince them that it was he.
Philippians 3:21
Philippians 3:21 ESV
21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
God will transform our lowly bodies, to be like His....glorious.
Why do we need new bodies?
Romans 7:24
Romans 7:24 ESV
24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
Our bodies are tainted by sin. It is woven into us.
We will have new bodies that do not have the curse of sin on them.
Aging, dying. These are all and effect of sin.
Because Adam sinned, all now have a body of death. All now will die.
1 Corinthians 15:50-53
1 Corinthians 15:50–53 ESV
50 I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
Our perishable bodies, shall be changed into imperishable.
What was mortal must put on immortality.
Comfort
Our loved ones who know the Lord. We will see them again.
Death isn’t the end, it is the beginning.
For we have put off mortal and put on immortal.
We will be with our Lord, and see the one’s we love, forever.
This is why love is the greatest gift, it never ends.
v.45

Opened Their Minds

People disbelieving in God is not an intellectual problem, it is a moral problem.
The problem doesn’t lay in their heads, but in their hearts.
Only God can fix the heart, for it is that people are blinded by their sin.
2 Corinthians 4:4
2 Corinthians 4:4 ESV
4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
What sad thing.
They cannot see God for they are blind.
Sometimes the hardness of their own hearts like Pharaoh snares them and keeps them from seeing the truth.
What do we do for those who aren’t seeing the truth in front of them? We pray.
Matthew 16:15-17
Matthew 16:15–17 ESV
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
Jesus revealing to Peter that His understanding of who Jesus was, is a revelation given by God.
Lydia is another example
Acts 16:14
Acts 16:14 ESV
14 One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.
God opened her heart, so that she could understand what was being said by Paul.
It isn’t that Lydia accepted Jesus and then God opened her heart. God opened her heart so she would listen and desire to come to Jesus in faith.
When someone refuses to come to Christ, their minds are blinded.
Because of our sin nature, we cannot see the truth. Satan also actively works against us to keep them from seeing the truth.
Pray for them.

In Christ

In Christ, you will be raised.
Our hope is in Him knowing that we will receive a glorified body, such as He had.
We have hope, knowing we will see those who have passed on in Christ.
In Christ, our eyes have been opened so we can understand how amazing our God is.
Don’t waste that gift you have been given.
Continue to study and learn more of God.
