Family Values
Core Values:
There are many values we live our lives by, but most of the time you can get them down to a few core values you live by.
Core Values are why you shop where you do.
Core Values are why you like some people and other you dont.
Core Values are leading your life’s choices even if you don’t continuously know those values.
Example:
If you have a core value of getting a deal. You will brag about the deals you got and shop only at places that offer deals. You might not even know that was a core value but you realize that you never pay full price for anything. If you do pay full price some part of you can never enjoy that item you purchased.
Some others have core values of the best. You only shop where you can find the best of the best items. You brag to others about how this item you just purchased is better than all the others. If you purchase something and find a better one later, you cant look at that item the same again. You probably won’t even keep it.
This Family has some core values:
There are core values it takes to bravely become the church Jesus has in mind.
Romans 12:2 NASB95
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
How many of you feel like your mind could use some renewing?
Let God transform you.
Then you will learn to know God’s will for you.
When we don’t know we are loved we look for love in our destiny or God’s will for us.
Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.
How does God change the way we think?
Not Back to the Future, not Back to the Past, but Back to Now.
Posture to receive
We are:
Born to Be Loved/ repentance
“You weren’t born to be right; you were born to be loved.”
Ted Hanson
Father loves us into changed thinking.
Repentance
· Changed mind
How do I change the way I think?
Romans 2:4 NASB95
4 Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?
Not knowing that the kindness of God leads to your mind being changed.
This is foreign to most of us.
If we are trying to change someone’s mind about something are the first things we go to kindness, tolerance and patience?
I think we mostly go to control, bribery and attitudes.
Important note is that it is God’s kindness that leads to changed mind not our kindness.
I have seen God show massive kindness to people who are causing massive problems.
2 Corinthians 7:9–10 NASB95
9 I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God, so that you might not suffer loss in anything through us. 10 For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
Sorrow is often interpreted as grief.
What is Godly sorrow or grief?
What is worldly sorrow or grief?
What is worldly sorrow or grief?
Self centered sorrow or grief is of the world.
When someone is sorry for what they are having to lose of face.
What is Godly sorrow or grief?
Sorrow for how you have hurt others or God is of God.
When you know that Holy Spirit has reveled to someone how they have hurt others and they are owning that and changes their actions from then on, that is a changed mind in the making.
To really repent from something is to stay engaged with Father’s love and kindness to you.
To really repent is to be present with God and this moment in time.
Not Back to the Future, not Back to the Past, but Back to Now.
You posture to receive a changed mind when you live in now.
When you want to escape, you are being tempted to make a choice of embracing Gods changing Love or avoiding pain.
When you embrace the discomfort of the moment and let Father’s kindness in, it changes your mind.
You are being transformed to prove what Father will and character is like.
Here and Now is where you find His Love and a changed mind.
Knowing your loved keeps your mind in a place to hear Father’s will for you.
You can not change your thinking.
You can position yourself to receive Father’s love and that causes you thinking to change.
You position yourself by being here and now with Him.
Activation:
Who is feeling a pull from Holy Spirit to have their mind changed about something?
Ask Holy Spirit what do you want me to change my mind or repent on.
Ask Holy Spirit for the grace to stay here and now to be transformed.
Other Resources:
Romans 12:1–5 NASB95
1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. 3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. 4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
