Letting the Truth Set You Free
Letting the Truth Set You Free
John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.””
In order for the truth to set you free there are a few things that need to happen.
You have to know the truth.
You have to believe the truth.
You have to want the truth.
Be aware of what is passing through your eyes and ears (relationships, entertainment, music, social media)
1 Corinthians 15:33 “Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.””
Proverbs 13:20 “He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.”
Declare truth over your life
Job 22:28 “You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.” Decreeing the truth with a pure heart establishes us in the truth regarding our circumstances.
Know what truth is! Read the word, listen to sermons, podcasts, write or prepare a devotional, write a book.
Truth often does little for us if we aren’t aware of it. If a contest was held and your name was put in a drawing by a friend and you won, but you didn’t know it and you didn’t know that the winner had to be present at the drawing in order to claim the house and the car…well the truth is you won, but because you didn’t know that truth....you lost.
Take your thoughts captive and catch the lies before they take root!
2 Corinthians 10:5 “casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,”
So many of our issues could be avoided if we simply didn’t allow our thoughts to take us places they shouldn’t.
We need to be more vigilant in our thinking!
Cultivate godly relationships. Invest your time into people rather than self or things. Hospitality.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”
1 Peter 4:8-10 “And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
Stop lying and make truth a priority. Some people are just used to lying. Little white lies aren’t that big??
Proverbs 12:22 “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.”
Colossians 3:9 “Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,”
Confess and remove any darkness in your heart.
James 5:16 “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
Proverbs 28:13 “He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”
Love the truth more than the lie.
Romans 10:2-3 “For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.”
2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”
Live the truth and share the truth.
Matthew 5:13 ““You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.”
Philippians 1:27-30 “Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God. For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.”
Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
