Mission Possible - MT 28:19-20

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

INTRO: In 1966-TV Show - A group of extraordinary spies, each experts in their own fields, were challenged to execute the most hazardous missions. The beginning of each episode featured the now-famous tape-recorded message outlining the latest task for the group to tackle. The mission was centered on overthrowing an oppressive government in order to liberate the common citizens to live in freedom. The show was called MISSION IMPOSSIBLE.

After the resurrection Jesus gathered a group of extraordinary disciples, each experts in their own fields. He challenged them with a MISSION that establishes the justification for ministry in the church today...the Great Commission.

MISSION POSSIBLE has an ASSIGNMENT.

All missions have an ASSIGNMENT. Our ASSIGNMENT is to MAKE DISCIPLES.

Of WHO?…of our family…of our friends...

BUT JESUS SAID…OF ALL NATIONS!

The Assignment of the Going to the Store; bringing home the change.

We have to FOCUS on our ASSIGNMENT. There was a cost paid and we must fulfill it.

MISSION POSSIBLE has ACTIVITIES.

Activity #1-BAPTIZE (βαπτίζω) - fully immerse in water; give a new name (CHRIST)-Gal 2:20 “20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

We are to fully immerse people, human beings, in the water of the Spirit. The Spirit gives life.

AND allow their name to change according to the SPIRIT. Not physical name change.

Activity #2-TEACHING (διδάσκω) - to provide instruction in a formal or informal setting.

In the past, in our zeal, we blew the teaching activity.

Why should we go to other nations when our nation is in turmoil?

You’re thinking NATIONAL but God is Thinking GLOBAL. All the nations in the Bible are met with God’s judgment.

To complete this Mission you need a KINGDOM MINDSET.

Acts 1:6-8 “6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.””

MY CONVERSION STORY - “I did this for My glory, but you did it for yours.”

MISSION POSSIBLE has ASSURANCE.

Superman and Lois Lane. Lois was assured the Superman would rescue her.

Jesus said “I am with you always...” - THAT’S ASSURANCE!

IS 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

When you’re in over your head, (FINANCIAL FAILURE) I’ll be there with you.

When you’re in rough waters, (FAMILY TROUBLES) you will not go down.

When you’re between a rock and a hard place, (DIFFICULT DECISIONS)

it won’t be a dead end— WHY?

Because I am God, The Holy of Israel, your Savior.

Christ paid a huge price for you.

BECAUSE HE PAID FOR YOU WITH HIS LIFE YOU HAVE THE ASSURANCE THATHE WILL BE WITH YOU ALWAYS.

CLOSE: The question is not “IS GOD CALLING ME TO THIS MISSION” the question is “ARE YOU RESPONDING TO GOD”S CALL?”

Responding to God’s MISSION POSSIBLE to Make disciples…INVOLVES SURRENDERING TO THE ASSIGNMENT; Your assignment of committing to serve; committing to support financially; committing to prayer.

Responding to God’s MISSION POSSIBLE to Make disciples…REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE OF THE ACTIVITIES; baptize and teach. This requires knowledge of culture, not just language.

Christ is providing the ASSURANCE for your success. Will you respond to God’s MISSION POSSIBLE?
