There’s much in So
John 3:16 is one of best know verses in all the Bible, probably even the unsaved can quote this verse.
On this verse hangs the foundation the gospel message .
In this verse there is a word that is small in structure, but powerful if one understand its context .The Word SO depends on its context or use , expresses wide variety meaning .
In this scripture SO describes the manner of the verbal action of love this becomes than a manner of comparison, summary, or degree, to the extent is often the thrust of this word.
I believe John was trying to get his audience to understand the degree and depthness or extent of God’s love.
John says that God Loved us so much, that His love moved God to action , that He could not be idle and let man perish.
The bible says 2 Peter 3:9 “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
So therefore God knew that it was going to blood to redeem man’s salvation
In our scripture lesson Jesus is teaching and talking to Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
Jesus explains to him concerning regeneration.
In vs 14 Jesus unfolds the heavenly truth to Nicodemus.
How can the new birth take place?
The penalty of sin must be met.
Man cannot go to heaven in their sinful condition : just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness in Numbers 21:4-9 The Lord say unto Moses whoever had been bitten by a serpent , When look upon shall live.
So the Lord Jesus uses this as a teaching point for Nicodemus.
Just as children of Israel were bitten by the serpent, if they look on the serpent on the pole would .
So, there fore the Lord parallel as Moses lifted up the serpent.
even so must the son of man be lifted up, as the church in the wilderness looked on the serpent and were healed, even so whosoever look on the Son of Man or believeth on Him shall be healed or saved by faith
So John uses the word SO to express the extent or degree of God’s love for us, and His Love is shown by the fact that God gave His only begotten Son.
The word So indicates 3 things
1) It indicates the intensity of Gods love.
God loves us so much that He gave His only Son
2) it indicates the manner of God’s love- In this way God loved the world - He gave the only Son
3) it indicates both intensity and manner in this way.
God loved the world in such an immeasurable degree and in such an awesome manner
The word SO and the immeasurability of His Love is seen in His suffering He endure the cross despising the shame.
He loved a fallen world, that did not love Him back, nor did His own people receive Him but he yet loved them.
There is much in So the Prophet Isaiah spoke prophesied the Lord suffering.
The bible says in Isaiah 52:14 “As many were astonied at thee; His visage was so marred more than any man, And his form more than the sons of men:” The bible says He never said one word in defense of Himself
