MESSAGE ABOUT BEING DEAD TO SIN @745
11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.
11 Even so consider yourselves also dead to sin and your relation to it broken, but alive to God [living in unbroken fellowship with Him] in Christ Jesus.
Some how Satan got us to make light of sin
when God said it brings forth Death
Some how not even the world but Gods own people dont take sin seriously
when Jesus was broken over it
How dare we as God’s people take on any other perspective of sin
thats not Gods
What God says about Sin & its Power
What God says about Sin & its Power
Ill share with you 7 things
One of the first things were told about sin is seen in Gen 4:7
Genesis 4:7 (NKJV)
7 ... sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
1. Sin is after you
2. Sin is our fault
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
3. Sin separates us from God
2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.
Sin at its base separates
it separates us from other but especially God
God who is all powerful, nothing can stop Him. nothing can rule over Him,
He is the creator of all great and mighty things we know
4. Sin costs eternal death
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
5. Sin is slavery
Jesus said in John 8:34
34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
6. Sin is lawless
so it is wreckless, chaotic, it is disobedient, has no structure,
7. Sinning is in our heart and is desperately wicked
9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?
Jesus spoke further and said Matt 15:18-20
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.”
While all these are true it really doesn't show us how it makes God feel
have any of you guys been cheated on?
Well God compares sin with cheating in the book of Hosea
There you see a prophet in love with a Harlot
and represents what its like for God having a relationship with us
so i dont understand why we make light of sin
why God’s people treat some sins small
all sin is big
all sin is destructive and wicked and separates from God.
when you have the right view of sin
there is a desperation for it to have no part of you
like drugs it seems fun but it will kill you
could you imagine
a smoker dieing of lung cancer due to a life time of smoking
is offered a brand new set of lungs
and says oh its not a big deal?
ill keep them
or say that person does take the new lungs and just starts smoking again and literally gets lung cancer again
because the person said drugs are not a big deal
but its literally killing you
well sin is literally killing you
If its not killing you for eternity in hell
its killing you from the life God has for you
from the plans God has for you
the joy , peace and life God has for you
Okay so
“Sin is after to you and is desperately wicked in your heart, to bring you to slavery, to do lawlessness, and to eternally kill you”
but Siin cant eternally kill you
if it eternally dies!
Death to Sin
Death to Sin
this is what Romans 6 that we are in is about
its about sin losing its power in our lives!
4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. 5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. 6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. 8 And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. 9 We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. 10 When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. 11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. 12 Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. 13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. 14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace. 15 Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! 16 Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. 17 Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. 18 Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living. 19 Because of the weakness of your human nature, I am using the illustration of slavery to help you understand all this. Previously, you let yourselves be slaves to impurity and lawlessness, which led ever deeper into sin. Now you must give yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy. 20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right. 21 And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom. 22 But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
There is 2 kinds of people. people dead in sin, people dead to sin.
Put Sin to Death
Put Sin to Death
I have a video on this i will share in a second
but you put sin to death when you do these 3 things
1. You trust that Jesus is enough to save you
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
2. You confess your sins
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
13 He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
3. Do righteousness
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
I got a video about this
interesting how he ends that epic section with what we wrongly call a small issue of envying each other
heres the video
