It Makes Me So Mad...
What makes you mad? Careful that's a loaded question. Don’t look at your who you are sitting with
Top Ten - cause the internet is always right:
1. Being wrongfully blamed
2. People taking credit
3. Liars and Lies
4. Bad drivers
5. Abusive parents
6. Screaming children
7. Ignorance
8. Nosiness
9. Knowing your right, but not believed
10. Someone revealing spoilers
We get angry.
Over the last few weeks we have been encouraging each other to “Fear Not”
Unchecked fear leads to anxiety and worry
Unchecked fear and anger can lead to anger issues - we feel out of control or powerless
Anger in it self is not wrong - we see in scripture Jesus getting angry
Be angry and do not sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your anger, and don’t give the devil an opportunity.
The question becomes why am I angry and what I am angry at?
That is where the issues lie
A man that does not know how to be angry does not know how to be good. - Henry Ward Beecher
That is what I want to focus on today - how to be angry
We are going to be jumping around a lot today so grab your bibles
Let’s pray
Anger is going to happen and it is imperative we know how to deal with it.
When we talk about how not to handle anger there are generally 2 camps
Wrong Ways to handle Anger.. Sinful Anger
Wrong Ways to handle Anger.. Sinful Anger
Spewers - express it
These are people that just let it all out
There is no thought, no plan - it is all just out there
You don’t have to guess what they are thinking - it is never just piece of my mind, it is the whole thing
A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise person holds it in check.
A quick-tempered person acts foolishly, and one who schemes is hated.
There is no thought of of the other person - it is all about me
You can’t just go back later and say - I was just angry
Those words are out there - like toothpaste
No one wants to hang out with this person - you never know when or what is going set them off
Spewing leads to more spewing
My wife could not handle when girls got sick and threw up - One did they all did
You will become what you hang around
This is the tornado that hits without warning - destroys where it hits
Stewers - suppress it
If spewers are a tornado - this is the hurricane you see coming, but can't get out of it’s path
You let everything build and build - until it has no place to go but out
When it does come out - often ground zero and anyone close will
It is also so unhealthy
When I kept silent, my bones became brittle from my groaning all day long.
It affects your body - causes blood pressure, heart issues, list goes on
Most the time it is because we won’t let go and forgive
Forgiveness does need the other person to happen - does not need them saying sorry
It will free you of so many things
Unchecked and un-dealt with - it affect and damage the relationships closest to you
Story of the Prodigal Son
“Then he became angry and didn’t want to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him.
What Should I Do With My anger?
Sinful Anger - put it out
To start a conflict is to release a flood; stop the dispute before it breaks out.
How do we know it is sinful - not hard
Is it all about you and your feelings and expectations or
Is about something God has said this anger Him
Stop getting mad about people who don’t know Jesus not acting like
Stop getting mad about who know Jesus - but are not acting the way you think they should - and not how scripture says they should
Take a breath before you respond - remember you do not get those words or that moment back
My dear brothers and sisters, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.
Sanctified Anger - fan the flame
After looking around at them with anger, he was grieved at the hardness of their hearts and told the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.
There are things in this world we should be angry at
Things that break God’s heart should break ours
True injustice - not my feelings being hurt
True racism
The murder of innocent children through abortion
Trafficking of slaves
the list goes on and on
Don’t just complain - do some thing
The church should be leading the way - but we didn’t - so we get what we get
Fear Not!
Fear Not!
If we would be angry and not sin (says one), we must be angry at nothing but sin; and we should be more jealous for the glory of God than for any interest or reputation of our own. - Matthew Henry
What makes you angry? Why are you angry?
If ti is not of God - it is sin and it will will destroy everything it touches.
Maybe forgiveness needs to be given, maybe we need to let go and trust God is in control
No matter what it is - unchecked, sinful anger will isolate you.
