Wednesday Night Youth Group Sermon
Date: 04/26/2022
Location: Wednesday Night Youth Group
Main Scripture Reference: 2 Corinthians 5:17
2 Corinthians 5:17–21 KJV 1900
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Intro

God will have an impact on some people's life that aren't saved.
- But the Bible doesn't say FOR God so loved the world that whosoever should believe in......
- religion should never perish but have everlasting life
- the church
- the youth pastor
- the church staff
- the church Ministries
- the fellowships
- GOD SAYS WHOSOEVER SHOULD BELIEVE IN CHRIST!
What is missing is the reconciliation, and the change as a result from it.
The term reconciliation is really the one word that captures the objective of the gospel.
Reconciliation - The practice of resolving differences or arguments. This pertains especially to mending broken social relationships
Reconciliation implies there was once a good relationship
Go back to Genesis (creation before the fall)
The purpose of the gospel is to reconcile a sinful people with a holy God.
The outline for this process is found in 2 Corinthians 5:17
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV 1900
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Notice the parallel...
OLD vs. NEW
What is old?
Our sinful nature
Romans 5:12 KJV 1900
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
You are a sinner from birth
This nature is continually evil, it can do no good, it has no purpose, it does not glorify God
What is new?
That is what we are looking at tonight
When you are saved The Bible calls you a new creature. Old things are passed away. SO WHEN YOU ARE SAVED, IT IS LITERALLY AS IF YOUR OLD PERSON HAS DIED AND YOU HAVE BEEN CREATED AGAIN.
Stop for a second, if you are a new creature, and the old you is dead, can it live again? No. So why do we have so much trouble understanding that once we are saved we are always saved.
WHEN NICODEMUS SPOKE TO JESUS, JESUS TOLD HIM EXCEPT A MAN BE BORN AGAIN, HE CANNOT SEE THE KINGDOM OF GOD. SO I ASK YOU CHRISTIAN, DOES YOUR LIFE RESEMBLE THAT OF ONE WHO IS BORN AGAIN OR ONE WHO IS STILLBORN IN THE WAYS OF THE WORLD, DID YOU RECEIVE A NEW SPIRIT OR A NEW NAME TAG. DOES YOUR SALVATION MEAN NOW YOU HAVE NEW RULES OR DOES IT MEAN NOW YOU HAVE A NEW LIFESTYLE. ARE YOU A NEW MAN OR AN OLD ONE WEARING A NEW SET OF CLOTHES. WAS YOUR HEART CHANGED, OR YOUR TITLE? Did you go from old man to new man, or non church attender to church attender, because one of those means nothings, and the other means eternal life.
What are some aspects of this new man?

Body

1. We have a New Home

2 Corinthians 5:1–2 KJV 1900
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

Hebrews 11:8–10 KJV 1900
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
What ties the two passages together?
Abraham was called to to leave his home, to go out into a place that was not his home, traveling towards a new home, built by God.
We are called to leave this earthly home, and live in this place that no longer is our home until death. At which point we will move to our new home in heaven.
Notice the last phrase, who’s builder and maker is God.
Quote or Book Reference
Example: “All true believers desire the heavenly inheritance; and the stronger faith is, the more fervent those desires will be.” - Matthew Henry
Points Supporting the idea from the quote or reference.
God loves us in spite of what we do.
Personal Quote
Example: The love of God is stronger, more relevant, more powerful, and of greater importance than any other love you will ever receive.”

2. We Have a New Title

1 John 3:1 KJV 1900
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
- YOU ARE CALLED CHILDREN OF GOD. THAT'S YOUR TITLE. NOT A BAPTIST, NOT A CHURCH GOER, NOT A YOUTH GROUP ATTENDER, YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD.
SO ACT LIKE IT. STOP HAVING MORE ALLEGIANCE TO CHURCH THAN YOU DO GOD. STOP CARING MORE WHAT YOUR YOUTH PASTOR WILL THINK THAN YOUR GOD WILL THINK. STOP FOCUSING MORE ON RULES THAN YOU ARE THE HEART. GOD IS NOT LAW SYSTEM HE IS A GOD AND A FATHER, AND HE WANTS A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU AS HIS CHILD!
SO WHEN PEOPLE ASK YOU WHO YOU ARE, BE PROUD OF THE FACT THAT I AM A CHRISTIAN, I AM A CHILD OF GOD! DONT SAY YEAH I GO TO CHURCH SAY I AM A CHRISTIAN. DONT SAY I GO TO YOUTH GROUP SAY I AM A CHILD OF GOD!
I ONCE WAS SIMPLY A PRODUCT OF THIS EARTH AND NOW I AM GOD'S CHILD.
Supporting Scripture to Back Up Passage
Genesis 17:5 KJV 1900
Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
What ties the two passages together?
When God gave Abraham the covenant that he would be the father of the Israelite people, he changed his name.
Why? Abram - meant father Abraham - meant father of many
THE TITLE CHANGE IS A REPRESENTATION OF THE CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE
Abrahams name change represented his new calling by God, or title change of sinful creation to child of God is a representation of who we now are.
Quote or Book Reference
Example: “The child of God works not for life, but from life; he does not work to be saved, but works because he is saved” - C.S. Lewis
Points Supporting the idea from the quote or reference.
Our title is not just a name change, its a calling change.
An employee doesn’t change positions and do the same job.
Personal Quote
Example: The love of God is stronger, more relevant, more powerful, and of greater importance than any other love you will ever receive.”
Illustration
Example: Explain my love for my kids.
God’s love is far superior
God’s love is more powerful

3. We Have a New Purpose

2 Corinthians 5:20 KJV 1900
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
Supporting Scripture to Back Up Passage
Matthew 28:19 KJV 1900
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
What ties the two passages together?
Our purpose is no longer to glorify self but to glorify God, and one way we do that is by being his ambassadors.
We are ambassadors for Christ to the world.
This implies 2 things
1. Christ is not of this world
2. We are not of this world
What is an ambassador
Someone who brings a message from their home nation, to a nation that they are not a part of
SO OUR MISSION IS TO TAKE THE HEAVENLY MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL, WHERE OUR HOME IS, AND BRING IT TO A NATION THAT WE ARE NOT A PART OF, THIS WORLD

Conclusion

Remember
We Have a New Home
We Have a New Title
We Have a New Purpose
As we come into revival. Remember you are a new creation. That creation may struggle, it may fail, but it is new, and though we are reconciled through Christ, sometimes we need to grow back closer to God because we fall away from him. Allow God to revive you back to the person you are created to be.
Closing Quote
Example: “As Christians we have nothing to look back to. We are born again, reconciled through Christ. Live like someone with a new life, because that’s what you have.”

Script

We have learned this week through our theme verse, that revival comes through three different steps. 1. Humble yourself. 2. Pray and seek his face. 3. Turn from their wicked ways. I think this progression really is in the perfect order, becuase if pride is in the way, we cannot be revived, so that must be the first step. Following that, we must pray and seek God, why, because the next step cannot happen without God’s help. We can’t turn from wicked ways by our own power. God is the only one powerful enough to conquer sin, and with his help we can too. I wonder if some of you maybe have the steps out of order, and that’s why you are struggling to see revival in your life. Maybe you start with getting rid of sin, with a life full of pride and never asking God to help. and you are discouraged when you continue to struggle with the sin. Or maybe you came thursday night, humbled yourself, you never reached out to God for help, and now your trying to get rid of your sin on your own, not finding victory. So we know there is a progression, but what we are going to look at tonight is the last step of revival from our verse, turning from wicked ways. Just like there is a progression for revival, there is a progression for removing sin in your life. The outline is found in 1 John 1:9
1 John 1:9 KJV 1900
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Confess our sins
He forgives
He cleanses us
